Good for Jay! Somewhere, Pete Lembo is jealous.

We definitely had good coordinators at the start of the Lembo era. There was a decline after Skrosky and Bateman left.

There were alot of us really questioning Bateman when he left. Everyone loved Skrosky but not so much Bateman

I agree Card Fan, but in hindsight Pete's recruiting philosophy was to recruit a ton of middling offensive skill position players. We did not recruit defense very well, and it was a major rub between Jay and Pete.

That actually was another point I was going to make so I think you’re dead on there. Pete did not invest anything in the defense. At all. Time. Recruits. Etc.

Maybe his plan was to build an impressive offense that would then get his next ticket punched. His Muncie plans were to be gone fairly soon I think.
