Six or seven wins next year and he will get the 5th year of his contract 8+ wins and he gets an extension. Thats sounds right and if he gets the six or seven I would not argue an extension. How long though Id would be OK with 2 but would question 3 or more

I love reading this maybe the 10 yard cushion is gone I like it as well. Can be a double edged sword though.

Always take quality when available. I always wondered why some companies wouldn’t hire someone because they were “over qualified “ for the position. Afraid they wouldn’t stay long. So they hire a lesser qualified person. To build you need some continuity. Trying to build a program and recruit to it when coaches are on short term contract likely to leave is harder.
But winning games is important. So I like the idea and hope this works and we can replace the guy that leaves with someone who can carry on whatever he accomplishes in a short stay. That's not easy. Hiring cheap for short term doesn't work very often unless you are prepared to keep growing and expect to replace them without too much cost in turnover.
We hire too many coaches who need OJT. They learn here, move on, we don't get the bang for the buck, we're just cheap. Low budget. In mid major FB it's not unusual to do that, even have a whole staff move on. Tough to build from zero that way, sustain it.

We are basically renting this guy for a year maybe two. I guess we hope he improves the young guys and recruits a few good players in that limited amount of time. The other hope would be as he leaves he has a recommendation of a guy who is less experienced that would fit our shrinking budget better.

Exactly. Maybe down the line he is a HC candidate.

Exactly. Maybe down the line he is a HC candidate. The other thought is maybe our current secondary players are so bad his defense will look like garbage and we get him for longer

Welcome aboard Grady Brown - the new DB Coach replacing Chevis Jackson. Brown spent the past season at Louisville and prior to that was at Alabama State and South Carolina. He is known for being a top notch recruiter - his main areas have been Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. Well, this didn't last long; FootballScoop is reporting that Brown has left for ODU: Old Dominion: "Per source, Ball State defensive backs coach Grady Brown has left to become the co-defensive coordinator at ODU".
