Bowling Green, Ohio was named after Bowling Green, KY by a guy who used to deliver mail in that Kentucky town. And then Bowling Green KY:
"Some controversy exists over the source of the town's name. The city refers to the first county commissioners' meeting (1798), which named the town "Bolin Green" after the Bowling Green in New York City, where patriots had pulled down a statue of King George III and used the lead to make bullets during the American Revolution.[7] According to the Encyclopedia of Kentucky, the name was derived from Bowling Green, Virginia, from where early migrants had come, or the personal "ball alley game" of founder Robert Moore.[8] Early records indicate that the city name was also spelled "Bowlingreen"."
OK, so Bowling Green, VA:
"The town was renamed for "The Bowling Green" which was the plantation of town founder, Major John Thomas Hoomes,[5] who donated the land and funds for a new courthouse when the community became the county seat in 1803. The origin of the plantation's name is not definitive but may be based on the 2-acre (8,100 m2) green sward in front of the plantation house itself."
I had always assumed all these towns had some sort of grassy stretch where they rolled a ball of some sort, but not necessarily.
Anyway, Vegas has BSU as a 1 pt favorite, which surprises me. It seems Vegas is taking BG's recent struggles seriously. I'm still wondering what their problem has been.

Reading over the BG message board, there seems to be similar sentiments to what is frequently posted here; as an example:
"I think we greatly exceeded expectations because the expectation was more horrible coaching. This year we saw a big leap forward in Justin Turner, and we saw better coaching. We stopped trying to run so much offense through the post, and we leaned heavily on our best player. Absolutely we saw enough growth from the coaching this year that they'll be back next year for sure, and should be.
I'm still not a big fan, next year is very much a "show me" season. I still think we are below average to poor in drawing things up when we need a play. I also don't think a good coach can have a team that just flat out doesn't show up as often as ours. Especially with a team led by upperclassmen.
If this team doesn't play well for the tournament, it's absolutely a testament to the coaching job. We have seen that we greatly underestimated the talent level of this team. If they show up engaged and are willing to move the basketball this team can beat anybody. Too frequently we show lax effort on defense and try to play pure iso ball on offense, if that team shows up it's definitely a negative checkmark for the coaches heading into next season.
Also worth noting that the middle portion of this season was obviously the best we've seen in years, but this is the 2nd year in a row that we've looked awful in March as the important part of the season begins".
I would not be surprised if Ball State wins this game.
