I agree with the assessment he is a very low level recruiter. I also acknowledge most people are not able to spend a summer working on saving their marriage & getting paid at the same time. But lets accept he could & while a leave of absence would have likely been a true explanation it would have probably led to a coaching replacement if made.I think at this point that summer is past & his recruiting is no different so we have enough knowledge to say yes he does not do a lot of recruiting & is never going to bring in a Theron Smith.

In the university world, it's not uncommon for people to take extended leaves of absence, for all sorts of personal reasons.
That doesn't bother me... I've been there, and it sucks on a lot of levels, so I don't begrudge him that.
It DOES put more pressure on assistants to recruit better, and they haven't stepped up. I've seen a lot of coaches have their W/L record suffer because of loyalty to their assistants.

Yes I agree & think he with 2 new assts probably had less help this yr. Not that it changes my position on his head coaching job being such we would be better off making a change asap.

So you're saying that also applies to instructors? So, theoretically these people could take extended leave in a place without internet access and where cannibals and other dangerous perils could await them? Who wants to pitch in to buy the plane ticket?

Recruiting is not the true issue here, coaching is.
As I have stated for years he does not instill the fundamentals of basketball. Hell he can't even adjust and play different defenses when it is required in a game time adjustment. Good coaches make the best of their personnel, no matter the talent level. We had enough talent to go .500 in the MAC, but apparently that is too much to ask of this fool and the idiots that keep him employed here.

If your a D 1 head coach, recruiting skills are your bread and butter. If you don't possess the above-mentioned coaching abilities, you should have NEVER been hired as a head coach

To the point regarding recruiting hard (and I'm only talking about in state prospects here) This is what NCAA Tournament "AT LARGE" team Belmont from the OVC recruiting looks like from the state of Indiana!!! And this team is located two states away for crying out loud!!! 'This was an article in the Indy Star today. How the hell does Jimmy Two Win miss out on talent like this???
He's likely one of the best players in the country that most people don't know about, but former Perry Meridian standout Dylan Windler will get his shot in the spotlight in Tuesday's late play-in game. Windler helped the Bruins get the rare at-large bid out of the Ohio Valley Conference after leading Belmont to a 26-5 season. Windler averages 21.4 points and 10.7 rebounds a game, and had it not been for likely NBA draft lottery pick Ja Morant at Murray State, would have been the hands-down OVC Player of the Year.Windler is far from the only native Hoosier on Belmont's roster. He's joined by junior guard Michael Benkert (Center Grove), junior center Seth Adelsperger (Peru) and freshman forward Rilee Epley (Evansville Harrison). Adelsperger averaged 12.3 minutes, 4.8 points and 2.5 rebounds a game. Benkert plays 21.7 minutes a game, averaging 4.3 points. Epley is redshirting.

I think we offered Adelsperger, but he had zero interest.

He was absent Muncie but not the whole time and did recruit the AAU circuit that summer, not close to a leave of absence.
