We played a decent game today and we could have won a game if things went right. Our team found out that they can play decent football and win. The question is, can we produce this kind of an effort every week? If we can, we will be a force in the MAC (I did not say we will win it but no one will take us lightly) Neu will save his job and we could be on the way to a successful few years. If not, then Neu is most likely history and we start from square one. It will be interesting what kind of team will emerge from the fog of this first game. I sincerely hope we will give a sustained effort throughout the complete season and possibly show the fans that we are ready to turn this team around.

Guskey has a pretty fair evaluation of takeaways from the game in the StarPress. D didn’t get iu off the field in key spots, the offense didn’t capitalize when it had the ball within one score of iu a couple of times, need a pass rush, overall we hung in there but no way to tell what that means yet. I think one of the biggest issues is we have a serious lack of both size and speed on defense. We are going to give-up a lot of easy touchdowns.

Danny Kanell on commentary said it best, we still lack on “burner” type of players offensively. Our offense looked very methodical (which isn’t a bad thing unless your down big or late in the game). We did have a couple of long td’s due to miscues by IU’s defense so that encouraging that we can take advantage of mistakes. I just wish we had a WR in particular who can out run DB’s like Westbrook did to us multiple times.
Overall I thought we looked pretty confident out there today. I think we just ran out of time to catch up.

We just aren’t able to recruit bigger and faster guys.

Hand it to their kicker. He set three personal bests. His longest until today was 44 yards. Today, 47,48,49 yds. IU knew it was in a ball game today. When we play a game like this we have to make the field goals but we must score 7 in the red zone. I am encouraged. We had our chances but we did not capitalize when we our chances. Quit telling me about how IU is strong, fast, blah, blah blah. They are still a bottom feeder and will continue to be one. They are strong, and fast. But they struggled with fundamentals today. Something that if they don’t clean up in a hurry, it could cost them in Big Ten play.

We’ve brought in some taller kids but we’re still plodders, relatively. Our guys just never seem to be able to run free downfield like WRs do against our D. Our offense is designed to be methodical and keep moving the chains, but quick strike we typically are not.

I was stunned when the idiot Fred Glass stated publicly the other day he is working on a major contract extension for Tom Allen. What exactly has he done ? Upgraded their talent significantly. IU would have lost this game in the past. Their talent made up for the multiple mistakes they made in this game. We definitely have a lot of work to do.

Hopefully more opportunities are to come.

He just isn't the guy who is going to build a quality program at IU. I think it's time IU fans wake-up and realize they aren't going anywhere in football or basketball until Fred Glass is no longer doing the hiring.

But Miller and Allen aren’t that bad. Not that I expect them to hang Big Ten banners, but they can probably be good enough to not get fired.
