Alot of caoch speak in there I think we all thought Bumbalough would play he almost has too.. Kroft and Hendricks we thought would redshirt. What does this say about Manbun,Thomas,Acree etc if article is true 2 of them get beat out and become non factors The article says "If" they are in the top 9, then any of them might play a lot. That says nothing...and says nothing about some who may play, but not a lot.
We have 6 players returning we expect to play a lot. 8 total returning experienced players.
6 newcomers. Thomas will play, likely top 9 level minutes. My guess is that there will be as many as 11 or 12 players vying for the top 9 in minutes played.
And, the top 9 could change through the season as the freshmen should get better as it goes on. Kroft and Bumbalough may have an edge over Acree and Coleman since we need shooting. kid says Hendricks is playing well, so I'd be surprised to see a red shirt. I doubt Huggy or Hendricks either one play that top 9 minutes level. Even if both are fairly good, I will surprised if we don't play 80-90% small ball.

Thomas will be a major factor!
Hendricks will get good minutes as will Luke!
I’d be surprised if Kroft didn’t play much; kid has a nose for the ball and is athletic!
Cards are the deepest in years!
My predictions didn’t come through last season but this season the predictions are bankable

We'll take all that for what it's worth. Your standards aren't exactly the highest.
But anyway, one would certainly expect that an 11th place team with significant graduation losses would have plenty of holes for newcomers to potentially fill. Our returnees are not exactly Jordan, Bird and Magic.

Yeah great two freshman who ranked in the mid three-hundreds are going to see a lot of playing time. Sounds terrific. This is the same blowhard coach, who this time last year, said Acree was his best recruit ever. You can't fire this guy soon enough.

I love this "Luke Bumbalough and Lucas Kroft, two local guards from the state of Indiana who can hit 3s,"..................Kroft was barely over 30% his senior year in High School, he isn't a difference making "shooter". This is just the kind of James Whitford bullshit that pisses me off.

Yeah great two freshman who ranked in the mid three-hundreds are going to see a lot of playing time. Whitford says he is looking at them, that both have to break through to play. What's wrong with that? Not that unusual to see a player at their level do that. Certainly possible. Bumbalough certainly has a good shooting record. Kroft looks good in practice, has to prove it, but if he's ready in others areas shot as well as several players he is competing with for PT. Don't think shooting alone is necessarily the key to his PT.

Our bench is definitely deeper!
Why do you think Street and Smith thinks we’ll contend?
I know, nobody that doesn’t agree we’ll have a poor season must be clueless!
I just don’t know what you’ll say if this team breaks through...

I think I trust the 10 of us more than any publication.. We flat out know more than they do.

I think I trust the 10 of us more than any publication.. We flat out know more than they do. Who can disagree there. Not like there is much justifiable certainty here, though. Either way. And no consensus opinion here anyway. I don't think there should be either, so we are smarter on that point at least. Street and Smith was on deadline after all. I have not seen enough practice to know how the talent will fit together, they are a long way from having decided that. There is talent, depth, and good reason to think better shooting, but it's always uncertain how practice translates to the real games. We don't know all that much about other teams, either. Street and Smith more?

Whitford is trying to frame an argument that last seasons issues were largely the result of poor shooting and that he has addressed those needs through recruiting. Both those statements are false, we shot .325 from three last season compared with .337 the prior year. The problems ran far deeper than just mediocre shooting ( we ranked 49th in overall field goal percentage), we turned the ball over way too much ( we went from 172nd to 310th) and couldn't rebound to save our lives. What he is trying to do is remove bad coaching from the equation and some people are dumb enough to believe him.

You are right it was not just shooting. Our shooting outside was not good for two years. He deserves criticism for that, I agree. Hard to have good cohesion without some set lineup or a bench to replace a player who needs to sit. Better depth helps give choices. Should help this year.
