PG Ismael El-Amin Josh Thompson or Luke Bumalough

Note: Seems like a deep basketball team! (But I thought the same thing last year!!!)

What's you thinking behind excluding Josh Thompson and from the top 10. I expect he'll play a lot of minutes. Would put Hazen and Josh in the top 7. Maybe Bumbalough for shooting next in line, after that it's whoever meets match up need or is playing well.
Gunn is a question mark in the top 10 if we are playing fast pace. Especially if Coleman or Kroft are playing well at a wing position, they may push him out. Hendricks may find it hard to play much as a freshman.
Every week, I see 11 or 12 players competing for PT in the top 9 rotation that week. Would not count anyone out at this point from possibly playing some respectable minutes at some point in the season.

Good point! I forgot about Josh Thompson: Much more experience than Bumalough at backup Point Position. However, It seems as if all (12) of those players have the potential to get minutes...
Coach is going to have a big challenge on his hands: Can't play everyone... and get a good flow and have continuity on the floor...
Yes! I agree with your point on Lucas Croft or Jarron Coleman playing Well... (I could also see one of those two players beating Kyle Mallers out of a starting Role-This team really needs someone in that position who can hit the 3!!)

Dude, are you an idiot, Coleman can't hit the side of a barn, and Kroft was a worse shooter in High School than Mallers is in DI. I also love how you think shooting is so important but think Walton is some kind of lock at the two. There is also no chance in hell Teague is going to play the post, or Amin is going to be the primary point. Is this a joke ?

Kroft did shoot 42% on 3 fga in his AAU career taking 6-12 attempts most games last year. And Mallers did shoot well year before last. Coleman plays, it's not deadeye shooting, but he isn't the bust you think.
I am inclined to agree KJ is probably going to have to have improved shooting or we play differently to use his speed. He'll play if he defends well.
Don't think we'll see Teague as a conventional 5 on offense or defense. In fact the whole team doesn't necessarily fit conventional 12345 assignments on offense. And doubt that's a big problem.

Position. 1st. 2nd. 3rd.
PG. Josh. Luke. Coleman
2. KJ. El Amin
3. Mallers Gunn. Acree
4. Hazen. Thomas.
4./5. Teague. Hendricks. Huggie
You will see El Amin play the 2 mainly and occasionally the point. When Teague plays we will go small with all forwards and sometimes you’ll see him at the true 4 with Hendricks in the game at the 5. Both Hazen and Thomas interchangeable at the 4.
I believe Kroft can/will play at least two positions; the kid has limited range as Sweep says but he can jump out of the gym and has a nose for the ball! He may not be a terrific shooter but he is a scorer

In my opinion Teague and Mallers are the only two guys who are locks to start all season. With Teague's history of reach-in fouls it would be hard for him to guard the five position so we might see Hendricks and Huggins sooner than we think, unless Hazen can guard the post. I also think if El-Amin continues to shoot well he will eventually move into a starting role. I don't see Coleman as an effective point guard, he isn't Roosevelt Jones.

Thompson is a great kid but he's a walk-on whose best attribute is defense against average speed guards. He will be in the rotation but he's not your starter. The three freshmen are just that. Unknown quantities who may flash at times and get some chances in early games versus lesser opponents. Gunn, Acree, Thomas and Coleman are more likely to play back-up minutes.

Sweep, if Hazen can play some 5 that will be a huge relief for us. His length is different than Teague’s because I think he balances his weight better. Teague always looks too straight up and down to me. Hazen can get lower on box outs. I feel that he would be better at eliminating second chance points in the paint compared to Teague. On the other hand, I think Teague is a better shot blocker and ball stealer. I wish we could mix Hazen’s fundamentals on defense with Teague’s knack for getting his hands on the ball.
Speaking of blocked shots, that is a defensive aspect that we will definitely miss Trey on this year.

I would tend to agree with RC's projection, however there is a rather obvious concern. Nobody in that group had a positive assist/TO differential last year. Also the presumed primary ball handler only had 19 total assists last year.
This, plus the loss of Persons could result in an offense that lacks purpose.

I agree early in the year. we can't know what happens as the freshmen gain experience, but expect Bumbalough to fit in quickly and get more minutes, step up into the rotation sooner than later, and the other two both could also do so as the season progresses.
Josh is a good defender even against quicker players, I think he may start as a steady ball handler, and would not rule out Thomas getting into the starting lineup.
There is a lot more bench here, we should not be nearly as nervous when a reserve comes in. Biggest question mark for me is whether Mallers gets back to being the player he has been at his best or continues in a funk, and of course whether we get hit again by injuries to really key players. The depth and versatility of the bench should help there. Probably need it, this is BSU basketball, something will go wrong...

I agree with both of you that Teague can't get stuck playing behind inside players, and we are going to need help on good post players (not that many in the MAC fortunately). All our front line players have decent length and if we play right should be able make it hard to get the ball inside, and to help and recover. Trey could block shots, but he was not good except behind the post, and was not great getting back if he left his man to help.

This, plus the loss of Persons could result in an offense that lacks purpose. Losing Persons should change us, that's true. He had so much offensive responsibility we did not get great defense from him. And with Persons that purpose you fear we lose was too often one dimensional. We may benefit from not having a guy who had the ball so much trying to score.
I agree we have to worry about ball handling and I don't now see that same half court offense, but we may have more options, and should be able to get more offense in transition. Defense should be better.

Yeah and Hazen doesn't really need to play the five position, he just needs to defend the post if possible. Teague has a difficult time keeping out of foul trouble at the four, at the five he would foul out of a lot of games.

Yeah and Hazen doesn't really need to play the five position, he just needs to defend the post if possible. Teague has a difficult time keeping out of foul trouble at the four, at the five he would foul out of a lot of games. That's been true in defending pure post players. What may be different is better help and recover and better D on entry passes. We have not been as agile and pressured to make his job easier. Without Trey we don't have the bulk to prevent post position, and Trey had to play more behind, wasn't very agile...
