Not hurt just not wanted. He in my opinion would be better off if they cut him. It was stated by Vegas area writers before season they were going with young receivers & they saw no place for him. It sure looks like they were correct.

I was thinking the same thing— I hope they release him and maybe he’ll get a shot somewhere else. He’s not been in their plans at all since that game winning TD ball went through his hands for an INT in their OT win over Baltimore in game one. Almost cost the Raiders the game.

Hunter Renfrow is entrenched as the slot WR in Vegas, and he just doesn't get hurt. Willie is trapped behind him on the depth chart and gathering dust.
I was really surprised that there seemed to be absolutely no market for Willie during free agency. I'm glad he made good money in Baltimore and I hope he gets another shot at a couple good years somewhere before he calls it a career.

All said and done he probably made close to 10 million and pulled of a career that less than 1% of people get to do

Hopefully it’s temporary suck and he’ll catch on somewhere.

According to CBS Sports, he asked to be released. They list the Steelers, Colts, Chargers, and Saints as potential landing spots for him.
Wouldn't mind if the Colts gave him a look. He's not the playmaker they're missing with Hilton and Campbell out, but he's dependable and they could certainly use some experienced depth at WR.

The Colts picked up Keke Coutee and played him last Sunday, so I don't know if they'll bring in anyone else. He could definitely contribute if he's able to quickly absorb the offensive scheme.

I don't know the rules (and Willie may not be open to it), but at this point in his career, can he be added to a practice squad or must he be placed on the active roster?

The practice squad rules are WAY different as of last year. Short answer: yes, he could be added to a practice squad with a salary of $14,000/week (as a vested veteran), and be eligible to be called up to the active roster if necessary. There are lots of veteran players in similar situations doing this.

It would seem the Saints would make the most sense with Payton being familiar with Willie, but I have no idea if the Saints need any slot WR's.

I wonder if he had much job security there, he's probably making a good bet to find a spot he can play and earn a contract next year.
Probably isn't what the Colts need, especially longer term, so to gain by signing there, he'd have to think he was going to get to play. That doesn't see likely especially if TY can come back, and you have to think the Colts will give that a try first.
