Some staff turnover there.
Preseason rated low in MVC. But it's a good conference.
Probably no pushover on their home court for us.

Read about E'ville in today's IndyStar. Significant transfers definitely upgraded their roster.

Aces had a very tough time w USI winning in ovt 71-68. USI plays Purdue tonight so we can compare them. Evansville like last yr is going to shoot lots of 3s & try to go to the foul line. They only played 8 players in the exhibition game with USI. ( I suspect they went all out to get the win over their in town D 2 opponent)/look for transfers Cunliffe 6'6" G-F to be the go to man. (played a yr at Kansas after a yr at AZ St)& Labinowicz 6'4"G ( Coastal Carolina starter 2 yrs ago)to shoot lots of 3s. They appear to lack a big inside presence & USI got most of their points inside. They only played two players of the 8 over 6'6". Williams the leading rebounder while 6'9" only weighs 190.Very much a guard oriented team as 6 of 8 who played are listed as guards. They only hit of 5 of 27 3s against USI & I would only hope they shoot no better vs us. Evansville has always been a very tough place for the visitors to win. Having said that if we take the ball inside we should get a win.If we depend on our outside shooting they could beat us.

Yeah we can simply dump it in to one of our multiple "highly skilled" big men. Shouldn't be an issue at all.

We'll be a little bigger. If they play only 8 players, all relatively small, Purdue will kill them inside.
We aren't inside oriented but are pretty athletic, bigger at each position, should be able to wear them down. Sounds like a good early game at a tough venue.
Like any small team they will live or die on shooting, we'll have to defend the perimeter better than last year and stay in front of the guy with the ball. Not strong points before this year.

You mean it's not like football where we always know what will happen?

You mean it's not like football where we always know what will happen? Football is a special Kind of cluster. Although we can also largely count on basketball to have the wheels come off in February and March. Did start earlier last year, though.

Hey not only is Defiance an NAIA school they won 3 of 25 games last yr. I think they are NCAA DIII, but yeah they are terrible. Bringing a lower division team in once a year is okay, but don't make it the home opener. If I were a season ticket holder I would feel cheated. Wonder how many recruits Whit will be bringing in for this game ?
