So, I finally took a few minutes and started looking more closely at our schedule and the teams we play in the non-con portion. My only assessment is the obvious toss-up games like Ind. State, IUPUI, Northern Kentucky, and Loyola will likely come down to how well we shoot and how our guards play. I fully expect to get drilled by the bigger name teams like Georgia Tech, Washington, UTEP, etc. I expect Bumb, Coleman and Thomas to have some good games and moments but they will also struggle like all newbs. I don't expect much from Kroft, Hendricks or Huggie.
So, that leaves it to our veterans. Your seniors must lead and be mentally tough in those toss up games and certainly during the MAC. Teague, Mallers, Walton and Thompson. I have long questioned our toughness with the exception of Persons. So who among the seniors will step up and be the guy? Ironically, it may be Thompson who by the way looks physically tremendous. He's lost about 15 pounds and looks fit and strong. IMO, our fortunes this season will likely rise or fall on the shoulders of Teague. If he plays CONSISTENTLY like he is capable we win 20ish. The caveat is not being selfish or too focused on "getting his". If he does that or plays soft/disinterested, we will be mediocre. I wish his motor and will were more like Persons.
EDIT: I know it's only two games in but it would be nice for us to start hitting FT's. 15-33? Really?

Another good fair and honest post. Persons had warts but you knew he was going to bring it every night. Teague just does not have the killer instinct. I think bumbalough had some persons in him but can that come out as a freshman

All very good points and questions. So much depends on if Teague feels like playing on a given day and how much he lets outside influences impact how he plays.

I think bumbalough had some persons in him but can that come out as a freshman Bumbalough is far more physically limited than Persons.

I think bumbalough had some persons in him but can that come out as a freshman Bumbalough is far more physically limited than Persons. OTOH that may mean he is not nearly as likely to hog the ball and that our offense would not start out with P&R action every time.
I do agree he is not going to be a threat to go into the lane, but he need not replace TP in all the physical aspects. He can take big shots and provide leadership.

Yes, I largely agree with RC; I think we can however compete with anyone on the schedule including Washington if we are firing on all cylinders 100%!
I believe for Walton to be successful this season since most have figured him out he must rely on his athletic gifts...vertical jump, etc and defense to up his offensive output...steals to transition buckets, etc
No doubt on free throws... if we hit a reasonable percentage we're 2-0.
I also still think Kroft has skills and will contribute like Bumb, Thomas, and Coleman or near this level.

Walton has a chance to hit the boards, score. Think Chris Bond.
