I found the link to this story on the Hustle Belt site. I believe it ran on the athleticdirectoru.com website this summer. The Athletic Department Power Index is an evaluation of the desirability of Athletic Director jobs in every Division I conference across the country, starting with the Mid-American Conference (MAC). Before you link to the story, guess where BSU ranks? www.athleticdirectoru.com/articles/athletic-department-power-index-mid-american-conference/

Note the factors that attract AD candidates.
Many would apply to coaching since a good AD is critical to coaching success.

It’s a conscious choice by bsu BOT and administration.

It would have been interesting to see the same data from 1999. BSU's position would have been completely different.
This is an important result if you plan to pursue the standard type of candidates from the standard candidate pool and try to outbid other schools and fight uphill against the conventional wisdom embodied in this data.
But the thing is, all you need is one ambitious, innovative AD candidate who might not be high in the standard qualifications, and who might come relatively cheaply to seek an opportunity to try his ideas. He wouldn't give two shits about these results.

Once again, no one should give a shit on these numbers.

The facility rating is small in large part because we still do not have an indoor field facility. When completed, that score will rise up.

I like to title it “Is Your AD More Important Than Your Coach”I ponder this and then look at the dismal coaching carousel currently being experienced by our Indianapolis neighbor to the South. The Butler Bulldogs can’t keep a basketball coach! It’s a travesty that I watch from afar. They are churning through a basketball coach every 3.6 years over the last two decades. (as a gentle reminder; we have had relative coaching stability for 7 years) Unbelievably, they have been able to maintain a 30 year basketball winning percentage of .664 🤔 We certainly know that the common denominator over that 30 year period is the person that currently heads the athletic department. Now, what’s more important to a mid-major athletic department? Is it trying to do a 3 week, haphazard search to find that golden nugget coach that all the other colleges have overlooked? .....or should they make the AD a priority instead of an afterthought in the ATHLETIC department? Isn't our current AD from the land of OZ in the Emerald City? Surely there are some nuggets of wisdom she brought from the great Wizard?

Typical search is not 3 weeks. Not haphazard.
Ultimately it is the President's call. Committee and search firm produce 3 candidates.
BSU is not exactly a destination, that's true though.j
