Agree re the road! Beating Akron on the road will be very difficult and I’m not predicting that to be clear.
I don’t believe we began last season 2-0 br] I don’t believe the MAC is down but not truly sure where the conference ranks versus previous years??? Anyone know??

Yes Cardfan but we did not have this kind of start to MAC play last year! This team is very good defensively and will compete for a MAC championship!! didn’t we absolutely blow Toledo out at their place last year to start conference play? Yes, one of the last games we had our regulars all in the lineup. Things looked very promising as we had upside as we got Trey up to full speed.
But THEN. A series of injuries where we rarely had the same starting lineup. And weakness on the bench which was predictable proved itself all too real. We ended the season dragging our ass into the MAC tourney with a worn out group which had never got back to the level of the Toledo game.
The result of a long season meant as we got the walking wounded back not only did they individually have to get up to speed but there had been considerable wear and tear on the players who had been overworked all year.
This same thing could happen since we are thin on the bench up front. I do not like our playing our top 3 players 30+ minutes every game. Knock on wood we find a way to give them a breather. Getting KJ back into this game was a very positive development.
But, in contrast to last year we have a full roster active, and do have a few options, players on the bench who should improve, and very simply just do have some players on the bench. Bench time will not be Zach Gunn as the only option.

I will say that if our KEY contributors stay healthy, Teague plays at an ALL MAC level consistently, and we maintain our energy and intensity level we have a chance to win a lot of games and truly compete in Cleveland.

BSU played good D last night (9 TOs w 13 PT off TOs), and shot 48% for FG, 37 for 3PT and 91% for FT. A good night of execution. Toledo and Buffalo seem weak this year. I think the results of Akron and EMU, on the road, during the next two games will tell us more about this team. Agree. A split is fine, Akron is not a likely win.
I do think we can have a winning record on the road. There will be the stinker at home along the way, every team suffers that. Still, right now it seems we might hold home court, perhaps only one loss. 12-6 would be a very good conference record...
The big thing is that with Teague showing what he can do, we will go into the MAC tourney with a star who can win a game, and we have a supporting cast as deep as most teams. That defense is hard to maintain over 3 games in 3 days, but we could be very tough if we get KJ at full speed and get either Acree or Kroft capable of playing serviceable minutes.

Well it appears a few folks are coming to the side that this team if they stay healthy and play like they have the last couple of games they have a good chance in Cleveland.
We are definitely deeper than last season in my view.
I also agree that we can’t expect a winning record on the road but we will win a few; I projected 11-7 preseason but could see 12-6.

I wouldn’t call Toledo and Buffalo weak. Maybe not as strong as last year. Two good wins. Need solid road performances that will be difficult to win. Hope for a split?

Well, they’re both 0-2 in the league so at the moment they look pretty weak but it’s a long conf season. We’ll see because things can turn in a hurry.

I also agree that we can’t expect a winning record on the road but we will win a few Since we play 5 of 9 against the West, we really should win 3, good chances 4 there. East is a bear, we can win 1 there. Total on road 5 very possible. Home, who knows. Have to avoid an upset. But probably won't, several tough tossup Home games. Have 2 tough wins in the book. Disappointing if we lose very many here.

I saw on bsu.edu the attendance was 4811. The only concern I had from the game was Buffalo had 52 of their 68 points in the paint. There might have been 2500 there last night. no way there was 4800 but 2500 is to low I'd say 3500 ish. There were alot of other sports teams there

Right now we are playing excellent defense. In addition, we have been strong at the line, I think 90% last night. Also, we have been shooting consistent threes. If these can continue, we could have a strong year. Buffalo made a few charges, the Cards responded. Keep it up Cards.
Akron will be tough. When I lived in NE Ohio, I attend several. Akron and Kent games back in the ‘90’s - good years for the Cards. They’d get maybe 2,000 people to the games. In those cracker boxes of a gym, the Cards almost always lost and this was before either of them were that good. Winning there today is even harder. ESPN says we have a 26% chance of winning Friday (they gave us a 75% chance of beating Buffalo). Hope ESPN is wrong and the Cards play strong. Go Cards!

We scouted Buffalo very well....they are a drive and kick team!
Our D as David said was awesome and frankly has been good overall so far!
Akron will be tough and I don’t believe we’ll win but we’re hot so don’t count us out!
I think the teams to beat in the end may be Akron and Kent State

I’m not so much concerned about winning these tough road games as I am how we play. Play tough energetic basketball then I think I it bodes well win or lose. Revert back to crappy, sloppy, uninspired play and the red flag of same ol same ol goes up.
