I guess his ankle injury is very "complicated". Yet, he dresses, warms up and it doesn't appear to be heavily taped. Complicated indeed. Is it too late to get a medical red-shirt for him this season? After all we have 3 scholarships for next season that apparently will not be used or needed. Hmmmm. Interesting.

Unfortunately it appears the medical red-shirt is no longer an option for Walton. From what I just read (not in depth study so could be wrong), a medical red-shirt cannot play in more than 20% of the games. Assuming BSU plays just one MAC tournament game, that would be 32 games. If Walton had been shut down for the season right after he got hurt against North Kentucky, he would have only played in 16% of the 32 games. Unfortunately now he has played in 10 and thus 32% and he no longer qualifies for that option.
I think this all ties back to why Hendriks and Kroft weren't red-shirted. Whitford is playing for his proverbial coaching life. He's not thinking 4 or 5 years down the road, but just this season and maybe the next. He wanted Hendriks and Kroft available just in case he needed them this year. He hasn't (that is now obvious) and that has screwed Hendriks and Kroft into wasting 1 of their 4 years to play college ball. As for Walton, Whitford probably didn't even consider shutting him down after the North Kentucky game as it would have jeopardized this season. He's living for the moment and no longer thinking of the long term future because the walls are closing in on him.

Unfortunately for us, 11-8 is considered a miraculous turnaround by the athletic administration. He is destined to become the winningest coach in school history.
