Good article.. People have asked me before why I care so much about BSU sports when we always suck and will never have a chance at a major championship. I always tell them for me its not always about the records at the end of the year. BSU has given my family so many good memories. Being a BSU fan allows you to do so many things that you would just not be able to do at the big power house schools. You can build relationships with the staffs and players. That may happen from events, being neighbors or having kids in the same schools. Our players are not superstars and 99% of them are thrilled to take a few moments and chat with you when you see them out. If you want to walk on the field or hang out after the game and meet some players you just do it. You do not need passes or credentials. My son has got to do so many great things because of the above. Imagine being a 10 year old kid and having Taylor show up at your Basketball games or driving to Indy to watch your boxing match. How about Justin Hall coming to your football practices to help out and hang with the kids. This stuff just would not happen at other schools. Of course I wish we were better at everything but sometimes its more than wins and losses

This non-drinking diet is producing lucid thoughts of a Rob Calhoun that is mostly foreign to the long term fan base......

Having said that, there are two things I cannot tolerate: blatantly wasting opportunities and having no desire to even pursue excellence. BSU has grossly failed at both for many years (20+ in basketball), and I've had more than enough of it.

He also got me a field pass at South Carolina. One of the thrills of my life. Taking the field With 72K on their feet (of course S.C. was coming out the other tunnel)! But what an experience. Point being, as stated above, that wouldn’t be possible for me at a power 5 place. I love BSU. I wish we were better, but that’s life. Maybe things change.

We've all been frustrated (sometimes mightily) at our programs' seeming inability to "take it up a notch," but my biggest takeaway as a BSU fan has been that I can always look myself in the mirror as a fan of BSU athletics.
