I believe in IU's first NCAA basketball championship was a tournament of 8 teams The 1952 championship was a 16 team tournament..Wooden never had more than 25 five total in his and he is a god. Don't down play the number of volleyball teams if we do well in the tournament
The thing about collegiate men’s volleyball is there are very few weak teams. Just look at the MIVA. 6 teams were capable of winning the tournament with #6 Purdue Fort Wayne being in the semi- finals. The Mastadons led BSU 2-1 in Worthen Arena in February before the Cards rallied back to win in 5. Boy’s high school and club volleyball is the fastest rising sport in the country and volleyball will likely be an IHSAA sanctioned sport next year. It’s being voted on in May. Many college teams including defending national champion Hawaii, are filled with international players. Hawaii has not lost a home match in 2 years.

Good post above about the increased interest. There is some relevance in the high level competition, though. It is not so much the size of the tournament field but the number of teams competing total.

No doubt it will be a great tournament semifinal match on Wednesday with Lewis and Worthen will be rocking! The Flyers are defending MIVA tournament champions and swept UCLA in Pauley Pavilion this season so they are more than capable of beating any team. They will be coming in on a high after an epic comeback win over Ohio State!
