Great opportunity to play the top level teams. Great excuse for a trip to Honolulu.

Trip to hawaii is a hell of an experience for these kids though! I assume this was part of last year’s home/home package. Pre-season rankings are out around 12/10. Cards finished #3 last season, as a reminder.

After an incredible BSU-Hawaii 5 set match in the NCAA Final 4 last year, Hawaii will likely pack 8000 fans into the Stan Sheriff Center when the Cardinals come chirping. These should be 2 blockbuster matches as Hawaii will be ranked #1 in the AVCA pre-season poll and BSU is expected to be ranked as high as 3rd.

These should be 2 blockbuster matches as Hawaii will be ranked #1 in the AVCA pre-season poll and BSU is expected to be ranked as high as 3rd. Can you give us the breakdown of who we lost versus who we gain? BSU did lose 4 key players from last years team in All American setter Quinn Issacson and All American opposite Angelos Mandilarous. Add to that libero Colin Ensalaco and outside attacker Nick Martinski. However, BSU has some excellent returning players led by All American’s Caleb Jenness and Felix Egharevba. Add to that middle attacker Vanis Buckholz, opposite Dyer Ball and setter David Flores. The Cardinals added 3 international players and one reportedly touches over 12 feet and attacks on the outside. Also a 6’6” setter from Poland and a 6’6” middle from Israel built like an NFL linebacker. BSU also added 5 freshman to the mix. The Cardinals appear to be loaded again to make another run for the conference championship.

Ball State, Ohio State and Loyola are expected to to battle for MIVA supremacy this season. The Cardinals and Buckeyes received 3 first place votes and Loyola 2. Ohio State had the best recruiting class bringing in 5 players ranging from 6’11” to 6’6”. BSU landed the Hawaii Player of the Year and the Wisconsin Player of the Year along with transfers from Africa, Poland and Israel. Loyola brought in 5 players from California, 1 from Italy and a new head coach who was top assistant at UCLA. Lewis and Purdue Fort Wayne will be sleepers. BSU open season at 2 time defending NCAA champion Hawaii January 13 at midnight on ESPN+. The Cardinals lost a heartbreaking 3-2 match to Hawaii in the NCAA Final 4 last May.
