The AVCA released today their national rankings and 3 MIVA teams are ranked in the Top 15. Loyola is the highest at #10, Ball State is breathing down the Ramblers neck at #11 and the red hot Ohio State Buckeyes are at #13. Purdue Ft Wayne received honorable mention votes. Ball State will host Loyola Thursday at 7:00 in Worthen Arena in the most important match of the Cardinals season. A BSU win keeps the Cardinals in the title chase and a loss eliminates the defending MIVA tournament champion. Loyola is the defending league champion. Doors open at 6:00 Thursday and a crowd of 4000 is anticipated.

I thought we won both the league and tournament last year. We hosted the tournament, I thought.

This is from MIVA. That's why we hosted the entire tourney. mivavolleyball.com/sports/2020/12/28/MVB_1228205849.aspxLists us as winning both.

My apologies for thinking Loyola won the conference last year. I’m very pleased to know I was wrong. In men’s volleyball, Division 1 is combined with Division 2. Division 3 and NAIA are separate. The rankings this week are 1. Hawaii 2. UCLA 3. Penn State 4. Long Beach State 5. UC Irvine 6. Grand Canyon 7. BYU 8. Pepperdine 9. Stanford 10. Loyola 11. Ball State 12. USC 13 Ohio State 14. College of Charleston 15. Cal State Northridge

That's what I thought.
It's a really great men's sport, and doesn't require that many scholarships.

Title IX doesn't care what you like.

Title IX doesn't care what you like. Title IX issues go back primarily to FB in D1. I am not sure that it is the issue of scholarships as much as it appears at first glance.
It may be more the big issue with FB at all but the P5 schools is the FB costs involved outside scholarship expense. Number of high paid coaches, equipment, support staff, travel expense crowd out dollars for other programs.
FB runs the biggest deficit at most D1 schools outside the P5 conferences. P5 conferences with high revenue tend to support other sports including MVB. Stanford is a big school with good revenue and when they ran short of budget, they did not cut FB budget but dropped other sports. Granted their tuition expense was also higher, so scholarship #'s were part of it, but the budget didn't change and go out of balance for that reason.
