The MAC gets their automatic bid and have only received 4 at large bids: 1985-86-95 Miami and WM in 1998. Should we toughen up our non-conference schedule to better prepare us for most likely our one chance each season of getting into the NCAA tournament? I was looking at Bellarmine’s non-conference schedule the first three years at the D-I level and they’ve played: Washington, Kansas St., WV, U of L(2), KY, Duke (2), UCLA (2), Utah, BYU, Clemson, Loyola Marymount (2), Gonzaga, Notre Dame, and Purdue. I realize these games are on the road and they receive a decent check. Would the money BSU receives help with NIL? Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. This forum is awesome!

I feel.we.need.to.play a stronger.schedule. A mix of Power conference teams as well as Midwest teams with power ratings from 80-150. Our schedule is way to weak.

We haven't been close enough to even dream about an at-large selection since the tournament committee scrapped using the RPI and started using the NET. Not sure if that helps or hurts us. Frankly if we couldn't get an at large in 1998 (we swept WMU in 1998 and they got an at-large, go figure) and 2002 (beating Kansas, and UCLA and playing Duke) it won't happen until the whole MAC elevates it's status. The conference games drag down a strong non-conference schedule regardless if we win or lose.
Best to play a schedule that preps us for conference play. I'm not sure what to think of this year's schedule. As often stated it appears to have been exceptionally weak. The teams we played seemed stronger to me than their rating but maybe that is just because we are not very good. I do kind of feel like we are prepared for the conference season. I don't know about Kent State and Akron however. The bottom of the MAC is as weak as our non-conference schedule.

We are not talented enough yet to play a good schedule. I absolutely deplore playing cupcakes, but a schedule like we played in the early 2000’s would be ugly. We would get destroyed on the glass and would turn the ball over 30 times. We are not ready as a program to play prime time yet.

He must think we're gonna win the MAC. No other MAC teams on his bracket. Indiana State a 7 seed? At least he has Longwood... in his bracket. And as usual, Arizona will find a way to cock it up.

What's this bullshit that IPFW is a 13 seed and we are only a 14 seed??? It's that f------ Horizon League bias again! I'm sick of it!

If you look at the standings on, say, ESPN we are at the top of the MAC due to the 8-3 record. The guy obviously just looked at that without bothering about strength of schedule.
Or maybe it was narcotics

Bellarmine just moved to DI. Building the schedule to gather alumni interest in the program is critical to raise donations at the outset. Not that donor $$ are pouring into Muncie.
