These guys in the end of game were mostly at least college players for two or three years. They should know your friend is the shot clock. Use it. The Cards were shooting threes early in the shot clock. I can't believe the coaching staff told them to do this. I do not think the Cards got out coached but they did get outplayed. The guys on the floor were not thinking or were not smart enough to do what was right. But today's college players are not trained to be smart basketball players or smart in anything else, like all college students. It's the new world.
Go Cards!

The basketball IQ of these players has to just make Lewis want to pull his hair out š
Iām torn. I want to think heās a good coach, but the players simply donāt seem to respond. Pearson uncalled for 3 with 1:30 left and not fouling when every coach on the bench is screaming foul is simply baffling. That being said, itās the coachās fault if they donāt execute. These games that could go either way just simply donāt go our way. There have been some downright embarrassing endings (CMU & Miami). Ball State played joke of a schedule and still wonāt go .500 on the year. I saw Detroit Mercy is winless!

I remember an interview from many years ago with the radio guy and Purdue Coach Gene Keady. Gene was asked what he looked for in a recruit and he said it was most important to get guys who would listen. Apparently the guys playing for the Cards do not pay attention and listen.
Go Cards!

RF RF, the coaches didnāt tell them to shoot threes or not to foul, my question is did they emphasize to not crank up a three early in the shot clock and then emphasize that we have a foul to give so let them work it down and then foul. I donāt believe for a second that our players would ignore either of those instructions if they had been drilled in during the TO. They are too scared of the consequences. That tells me we assumed our guys are savvy enough to know both of these critical game sealing items which they obviously werenāt. Our players clearly didnāt execute but our staff didnāt clearly articulate those two points or we would be talking about a Cardinal victory instead.

Thing is that we are obviously bad, but EMU and Buffalo are measurably, objectively worse. And CMU, WMU, Northern are not any better. And we have seven games left against this rancid pile of dog turds.
This means seven or so additional wins, an overall winning record, and a place in the MAC tourney are not unlikely through sheer weakness of schedule strength. No shitting. Hell, a four-game winning streak heading into March is not out of the question. No shitting.
I'm curious how things are going in Buffalo. Like Ball State, the Michigan schools and Northern are dismal downtrodden programs that are used to losing and have a weak, low-expectation culture. Like us, these programs resemble a groveling, submissive dog that has rolled onto is back to allow the dominant dog programs to sniff its privates. Buffalo, on the other hand, has had success in recent memory. I imagine their fanbase is probably freaking out.

I remember last year Lewis went on and on early in the season about teaching that team how to win, how to close out games and not throw them away when you were up 8-10 points with 3 minutes left.
Jihad and Pearson were part of that team so maybe Lewis figured everyone remembered and knew those lessons, but Anderson, Bailey and Middleton weren't and maybe they don't know.
Another example of how much we miss Jacobs; if he was on the court yesterday no way we lose that game (and no way we start the game that badly).
We've lost several games this year because we didn't play hard. We've lost several more because we weren't very smart. I'm not sure which is worse, lack of physical or mental effort.

Lack of mental is worse. Exhibit a: how we finished the last couple minutes of regulation. After the game Lewis repeatedly said āwe drill on that stuffā. Bottom line, we lack mental acuity when it matters most. Guys revert to hero ball. So donāt recruit guys who are going to have that tendencyā¦..

Ny 8th grade team knows to milk the clock with 1:40 to go to protect a lead. Hell if we are going to lose anyway sit Mickey, Jihad and anyone else who was jacking up 3s. down and play the subs until they drop from exhaustion. Clean house? Have all campus tryouts for basketball. It worked out well for Freeman at Akron.
