I remember reading an article after Sparks agreed to withdraw from the portal and return to BSU for his soph year. Lewis had met with Sparks and his parents to share his vision and that Sparks could attain his goals at BSU. Would be surprised if Lewis wasn't truthful and up front about his coaching style during that visit. No coach has ever said Im going to cuss you and scream at you everyday for an hour lol... but yea you think dparks would know

The main reason not to offer Sparks, we would lose all our big men at the end of the 24-25 season.

The main reason not to offer Sparks, we would lose all our big men at the end of the 24-25 season. No mid-major has the luxury nowadays to think 2 seasons ahead with roster management. Portal killed that. We’re gonna have to learn to rely on 1 year rental players for the undetermined future.

I think RM Is right, in fact I know he’s right.
But having Sparks and Jihad both on the floor would be dominating in the MAC

I probably have a selective memory here, but I don't recall Lewis saying much about the departures of Bum or Sellers or Coleman.
With Sparks, however, it seemed to me he went out of his way to talk about how the kid always had this dream to play for IU. I also seem to remember comments about how he wasn't sure how he'd match up in the Big Ten, but that there wouldn't be a better kid in that locker room, or a better teammate.
So maybe Sparks doesn't want to come back and maybe he can't handle Lewis' style of coaching, but I thought Lewis handled it with a fair amount of class. He could have given a Belichekish answer of "the player has decided he no longer wants to be a part of this program. Ask me about players that want to be a part of the program." But he didn't. He talked about understanding his decision and about what a good kid/teammate he is.

Accurate. I don’t think they had a bad relationship and I think Lewis helped get sparks to IU. I am a little bit suspicious as to which school's best interest are closest to Lewis's heart.

I know what you mean. I would have thought Lewis might try to help out IU. Instead he sent Sparks to Bloomington and Sellers to UCF. Woodson had to be going "WTF Mike?"

Woodson is so clueless I doubt he knows who Sellers is to this day.

Woodson is so clueless I doubt he knows who Sellers is to this day. He isn't looking totally clueless in the portal wars. And he has signed more high ranking HS kids (not keeping them all) than his predecessor.
He has hit big every year in the portal. Sparks was a miss.
Doesn't hurt to have the war chest IU has. The big center they signed was looking for a million. Being a former Knicks coach has meant he both knows talent and money, and how to speak to talent.
His issue has been using the talent he has, and in roster construction that featured good talent but not what he really needed. I don't follow closely enough to know how he hoped to play last year without better shooting.
The players he is getting this year seem to correct some of the IU roster shortcomings, including shooting. He still wants that big guy in the middle apparently.
