Picked both of these up over the weekend. Both have us fourth in a crowded and close MAC West, behind WMU (LOTS of hype for the Broncos from the national press this summer, we'll see if they rise to it), Toledo and NIU. Uncertainty at QB and the loss of Edwards dogged us, but both of these mags seem to think our D will be improved this year and that we will finish with a winning record.
Both have the MAC West reigning supreme this year, with the highest-ranking East team (UMass) finishing behind the top five in the West in the overall rankings. (You read that correctly--the national press is picking UMass to win the East.)
Nationally, lots of love for the SEC and everyone is on the TCU bandwagon. Expect the mid-major darlings this year to be Boise and WMU, but Temple and SDSU are also getting love.
My first thought after reading both MAC previews was that I always assumed the national writers would remain on the NIU bandwagon for much, much longer than they did.

4th is probably right. We are just not as talented as the teams above us. WMU should be a juggernaut. If we can still end up 6-6 or 7-5 and get a bowl game that's a darn good season considering.

I hope I am wrong for the sake of the conference, but I smell something rotten in Kalamazoo. To turn around something that fast without the benefit of either academic or financial misconduct would be an ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE job. Note the word ALMOST.

One of their recent commits lives an hour away from Muncie and BSU was the first school to offer him. He chose WMU because he feels they give him the best chance of getting to the NFL. In the last 10 years, BSU has had seven players drafted while WMU has had five.
I'm hoping Fleck wins 9 or 10 games this year and a bigger school shows him the money.

As far as the predictions go, hard to argue that. The West will be very, very close, and I think the champion while have at least one loss. I don't think we have the difference makers to go 2-1 against WMU, NIU and Toledo while not dropping the ball against anyone else.

Do we have another Davis or Wenning waiting to take the reins? We have the offensive line, receivers, and we should be at least adequate at running back. If someone elevates to the next level at QB we will score some points. The defense seems always to be a crap shoot. We may give up a few too many big plays to be a contender.

Fleck definitely wins the recruiting war, but I'm curious to see what he does with them when they get there.
