The class act was Coach K not only making the kid sit out for a game or two but the fact he made the kid go to the opposing lockeroom and personally apologize to the other player

Yep. k wasn't going to do a damn thing but the kid absolutely lost it, very publicly, on the bench. And then was a mess in the locker room. And it was all on tv. And the outcry by the public is why k was forced to do anything at all. The kid has done this same thing twice before and they did nada to discipline him. It was the negative pr that duke reacted to this time.
Of course Duke fans see no issues with Allen, or how K handled it before.

Hey......This is totally unfair! In hockey, tripping is only a two minute minor, what makes these whiney basketball players so special?

After seeing all the outrage over Allen, I looked up the video of the tripping. It wasn't anything like it is being portrayed.
Obviously he deserved the tech at least...you can't allow that sort of thing... but it was more weird than malicious. All the talk made it sound like some really vicious play that put the other guy at risk of injury. More than anything else, it looked to me like the sort of horseplay move you might pull while fooling around with your buddies in the gym. There was no serious risk of injury - it just caused the guy to fall rather gently on his butt. There were probably 20 or more plays with a higher injury risk in that same half, only this one was so out-of-nowhere and unnecessary.
But it was just a really strange thing to do in a game situation. It just didn't fit. Of course there is no way it wouldn't be noticed by everyone in the gym. It wasn't an intense situation. It seems to me that the guy has some odd mental thing going on. His unhinged reaction afterwards supports this idea.
I'm not sure if a suspension is the thing to do. In fact, I don't know what the thing to do is...it's just such strange behavior. I think there is really a screw loose in the kid's head and I don't think it's going to end well for him. Everyone is enjoying their outrage, and they can do so unrestrainedly because it's a white kid from Duke, but to me it's more puzzling than anything. I would be curious to know what other behaviors the kid shows in day-to-day life...I'll bet there are some interesting ones.

He does appear to have a screw loose. That it's the 3rd time in a year that's got most people riled

Coach K is easy compared to his mentor, if there was something to be done, it had to be done earlier and with more impact. Can't ignore it, but I agree with General here, it's hard to see this ending well for a kid who seems at times unhinged. Suspension or dismissal or whatever.

That it's the 3rd time in a year that's got most people riled I wish BSU had about five players that appeared to have that screw loose, if they play balls to the wall like that kid. Not a fan of the kicking, but I don't think is a screw loose. Just looked like a kid out of position, whose only option (in his head) was to trip the opponent. A competitor out of options.

"Just looked like a kid out of position, whose only option (in his head) was to trip the opponent. A competitor out of options."
But any normal thinking person would have instantly and instinctively dismissed a leg sweep as not one of your tactical options at that point. Because it's far too obvious and visible or a thing to get away with. I'm telling you that the kid has some unusual and pathologically abnormal thought patterns.
I was a high school wrestler and we would sometimes play "navy basketball" at the end of practice, which was basically a wrestling free-for-all but with the object of putting a basketball in the basket. No dribbling, no fouls called. Allen's trip immediately reminded me of that. Just silly horse play that one buddy would pull on another. But in a college basketball game it's strangely and blatantly inappropriate. And any normal thinking person would realize that without even having to think about it. The kid ain't right.

Still outplays anyone we have on our bench. He is a Duke recruit. But, that is not the point. It's his behavior, not his ability that is a huge problem.
