On the old message board there was a long thread about whether to draft Andrew Luck. Just curious if after 5 years anyone on either side has changed their positions? Knowing what you know now, would you still have made the same arguments?

Absolutely. He's made errors but the system they built around him and the D is very poor. Terrible GM, etc etc. Half the time he is hurried or hit.
The other choice at the time has not turned out as advertised.

Absolutely you changed your position or absolutely you would still have made the same arguments? And how could the other choice not turn out as advertised? If it was the other choice that means it was not selected. If it was not selected then it produced no results to be measured. I guess I should also have asked that you specify which side you were on and what your reasoning was, because I don't remember who argued what.

To clarify, I believe he was the right choice. Always supported that move. Even though Peyton had some time left. Even that was uncertain. RG3 was the other top available choice I believe. I think Luck could be hugely successful with the right supporting cast. A series of draft mistakes by the GM, such as giving up the farm for "that" running back, etc etc have not provided a setting for major success IMHO.

And the total failure to build an o-line for luck is inexcusable. Otherwise just call short screen passes and outs all day long like the Pats do with Tom Brady.

Ah, now you nailed the other problem, coaching. They don't seem to want to remotely mirror the greatest system in the NFL. This bounces back to drafting the wrong personnel. The organization just is poor by NFL leader standards.

I would say mediocre from top to bottom (owner, GM, coach). You want bad, let's talk Cleveland, Chicago, etc etc. so not the worst, just disappointed they aren't near the best,

For those who aren't Colts fans, it has been moderately interesting (fun) watching what's happened. Fans had it really, really good for so long with a great QB, a good coach and a really good GM. I would say some got a little too used to it. Now they have a bad to average coach and a bad GM.
And I don't see that there is any immediate hope.

As a Colts fan I don't really think we've had it that good in terms of results. For college sports I can content myself with conference championships, bowl games, etc. For pro sports there is only one goal, national championship. The Colts were the beneficiary of a very weak conference. I saw a stat this year that over the past however many years we've dominated the AFC South and only been about .500 against the rest of the league. We turned that situation into only one super bowl win. I don't really care about racking up wins, I want victory parades.

The Colts had been so good for so long (they were really good) that it was an almost an afterthought that they would make the playoffs and nearly every year they were at least in the discussion. That's really all I ask for as a fan. I was so geeked up before the start of Sunday's game, I could have chewed through a rusty car fender. I can't imagine having that every year for how long, 10+ years?
I've been a Cowboys fan (1983) since they couldn't beat Joe Theisman and that damned single bar facemask when it counted. With the prior ineptness of the front office and big game failures, I don't take getting to the playoffs for granted.
I like Luck a lot and think they've really failed at building around him.
