Ground ball ends the inning but not before damage was done.

Gotta start putting together three straight days of solid baseball each weekend.

Gotta start putting together three straight days of solid baseball each weekend. We lose a pitchers dual to Coastal Carolina, win two and are down 2-1 going into the ninth in the fourth game and we're not putting it together Geez, sounds pretty darn solid to me.

Granted, I only saw four games but the pitching is MUCH improved over last year (Zach's injury was a hole too big to fill last year). The hitting is lagging and Stayton has not hit his stride yet. Call is IMPOSSIBLE to replace, just sayin'. Other than George Mason, we're playing really good competition .....very early in the season. Can't really assess all the younger guys yet as they had limited play. Seth, Roman and Trent were used extensively and appear to be strong talent. Overall, I think we have a competitive team, that can be real strong if the hitting catches up.
oh, and if someone has some knowledge on why Burns has only pitched ONE inning so far, let me know. He looked ok pitching that inning, but charted pitches in the stands (out of uniform) after that. I assume he has/had some kind of injury he is recovering from?

Another first hand observer echoed your thoughts in a conversation today.

I'm talking about using pre-conference weekends to get ready for conference. For a team in the MAC, that really matters. We do not get automatic bids to NCAA. CC game was a good showing, but they are 4-5, not the same team as last year (WVU beat them twice) and we lost. George Mason is not very good. The West Virginia game we led 1-0 thru 7 innings. Our offense sputtered. In the eighth, we gave up a 2-run HR. That happens. In the 9th, we lost control of the game with two outs. That's not closing out the weekend well. It's not the loss. It's how the game got away from us with two outs in the 9th. In the MAC, you can win 2 of 3 each weekend each weekend, but it's not necessarily going to win your division. You have to sweep regularly to win your division.

Yes, yes. On the $$.
We need a closer to step up if Maloney wants to use Brockhouse as a starter. We may have two good starters....we need a third. Marnon is 2-0, but was a little shaky and blessed with runs.
If hitting is behind because of shaking off winter, it should pick up this weekend. This is the first spring where opening weeks weather was VERY favorable. If we're going to be hitters, it should start to show.

I was hoping the starting pitching would have more solid depth this year. Sounds like maybe not the case. Not having a strong closer doesn't help matters. BUT, its very early a lot of things could work themselves out by the time MAC play rolls around.
