Ball State needs to make a cultural shift about athletics in order for the program to improve. On a few occasions, I have expressed the fact that we need to change the fight song lyrics. This should be the first major culture change that we make.

"Praying for a victory?" Who "prays" for a victory. What kind of a non-assertive message are we singing at every sporting event. Why not "Hoping" or "Wishing" for a victory? What a milque toast attitude our so-called fight song embellishes. How about "Brawling for a victory", or "Battling for a victory"? Or something else. This passive attitude stops here and now. Change the lyrics to our fight song and see the results!!! I've said my piece. |

Killing for a victory? Bulldozing for a victory? Kicking ass for a victory. In terms of basketball, our non conference schedule shows the words should be Paying for a victory.. But wait a minute, we have no record of ever paying what is needed to get victories. Maybe: Fight Fight Fight You better fight, for victory we won't be paying! Or. Just forget the victory part. Our song should glorify paying as little as possible: Fight Fight Fight We'd really like to keep playing! Especially without much paying! |

Didn't we have different lyrics when Hoke was here? Something like "Fighting for a victory"?
