I'm surprised the NC State schools didn't play this card before now. Probably sounds like a bigger threat than it is. It's an idea a politician might have who thinks he is invulnerable. Actually, since the ACC is pretty well established now and has Duke, ND, and other schools to anchor the conference, they might be happier than the legislators think to trade away the two schools with the problem they have, and go after schools now elsewhere to replace them. If the ACC calls the bet, voters might not be so happy, at least the ones from NC and State. It's not at all clear what the consequences would be to all involved. Those teams would not be nearly as valuable to a new conference, with presumably the same threat over the new conference, as they are to the ACC. Not have the clout they have had. I have no idea whether they would end up independents, which would hurt NC St, or which conference they would end up in and on what terms. Those two pirate teams might not even find a conference willing to deal with North Carolina politics. The ACC would sit there waiting for them to want back in.
