Does anyone know when the MAC media Day is this year? I'll be curious to hear what the media has to say about our Cardinal team this season. Since there's been some hype around how we will finish the season in the West.

Outside of the way off orlando sun article we have been picked to finish 4-5 by almost everyone else. You can also watch media day on espn 3

Its going to take the Riley we have been promised and a defense likely overhauled by true freshman really playing well to even sniff Toledo and Western

The program has a long way to go to compete with the top MAC teams. Hopefully by next year the recruiting will really start paying off.

Media voted us last in west division. Failing some sort of miracle turnaround I can't disagree.

Hell, I will disagree.
MAC media is pretty weak, it would be more a miracle if they got it right.

All things being equal, and the jump the other teams have on us in talent and established programs, not sure how we do significantly better than last year, even if we are improved. All rides on the defense and I don't see how we will be improved enough there to make a difference. And after losing all starting linebackers and a starting safety. And having an atrocious secondary.

I think the offense can be significantly better, and the defense certainly can improve. A low bar maybe on both.
So, I disagree with the "miracle turnaround." Improve on defense, improve on offense, watch other teams have their problems. We claw out of the cellar.

We won 1 league game last year. Winning enough to get out of the cellar will be a miracle turnaround, unless emu suddenly becomes emu again, or cmu can't replace their qb.

We can finish middle of the pack but we can just as easily finish last. We can not beat Toledo or Western unless Riley explodes onto the scene and the Freshman are difference makers from the first day. I think a lot of people do not realize the holes everywhere in the roster. Last years class went a long way in fixing in that but its a tough road if a bunch end up starting. The wild card is Gilbert and the running game if he/run is dominate we can stay in some games but the it falls on the D to not allow 30 second scores

The goal for this year should be to try and somehow get to six and play in a dumb bowl. That will help with recruiting another good class. If we completely tank it its going to really hurt on a lot of levels

And that's the problem. For us to move up, Neal has to become a star and a bunch of freshmen, whom you don't really want to have to rely on, have to somehow be MAC ready, especially in defense. That's just asking a lot. Plus, the other Mac teams have be pretty much stagnant from last year for us to leapfrog. It's a stretch to assume that is the case.

Being in the West is rough. Always good teams. In the east you have Toledo, Ohio, and Miami as strong teams and the rest around our level. Put us in the East and I guarantee we'd have a good chance to go bowling

For those of you that saw the Media Day on ESPN3, during the Ball State interview segment, Michael Reghi was "gushing over" coach Neu as his favorite MAC QB of all time. Quite a compliment, but I'm not sure how truly sincere it was. As cheesy as it sounded, that (and his constant reference to Neu as the QB coach for Drew Brees) provided a back handed compliment to Neu and could certainly register positively to any QB prospects looking to sign with the Cardinals.
