We won 1 league game last year. Winning enough to get out of the cellar will be a miracle turnaround, unless emu suddenly becomes emu again, or cmu can't replace their qb. Not finishing last would be a miracle? Haha. I love the optimism, cardfan. I think it is very possible if not probable that we finish 3rd or 4th in the MAC West. However, I'll always hold out a sliver of hope that we can surprise everybody. It keeps things exciting and fun for me, but hope and dreams aren't for everyone I guess.

I'll reiterate my point: we won ONE league game last year. In order for us to do something like jump up to 3rd, yeah, a lot of really good things would need to fall in place. That includes Riley Neal taking his game up several notches, and several freshmen being impact players. Additionally, we'll need to eliminate a lot of errors and the in game coaching needs to be better. I just think all of that's a tall order.
But, if we can somehow win 6 games and make a bowl I ain't gonna say no to that.

It's not like we were blown out of every game last year. In fact in many of our losses we were a couple frustrating plays away from a different result.

Very true UJ. Losing our top 2 receivers and 3 starting linebackers is problematic though. As has been said, several freshmen are going to be thrown in there. They'll be very talented but will make mistakes. I'm not saying we can't be much improved this year and maybe win a couple more games, just saying a lot of things will have to come together to do it.

Its just going to take a lot of things going the right way. Riley is going to have to be great not just ok(at times last year he was bad) overall he was ok. The freshman are going to make mistakes but then they are going to do something to make you say wow. The wows are going to have to trump the mistakes. We will likely be a better team games 8-12 by then the freshman will have settled down and might actually know what they are doing. Before that they are going to be flying around making plays with their athleticism and instincts.
My dream Scenario would be Riley comes out and shows that pro potential we all thought he had and we give Illinois everything they want. A Great Riley can get us from 4 wins to 6-7. A great Riley and 3 or 4 all mac freshman team defensive guys will let us shock some people.. Thats my dream

It's important to remember that we play in the MAC, not the SEC. We might not be great, but we might not have to be to have some success.

Those teams above us aren't a lot better but they do start out ahead of us on paper. These freshman who we have to count on are freshmen after all. OTOH. Not that much better. And we may have more upside where things go well.

The other thing we have not mentioned is this is football. If the Injury bug runs rampant A promising season can go down the drain in a hurry. Just depends which teams that little bastard goes after.

It's important to remember that we play in the MAC, not the SEC. We might not be great, but we might not have to be to have some success. Your right but we only won 1 league game last year. Eastern, NIU and Toledo will be better. Western will not be as good but still way ahead of us. CMU is a wild card much like us(we just do not know) our path too six needs us to go 2-2 pre conference and then beat Akron, Buff and pull out wins against CMU and Eastern. The question is which teams grew the most in the offseason? We cant take anything out of the spring. Riley did not participate and the freshman were not around. To be completely honest and fair we looked like a hot mess of poo in the spring game. That spring game team though will look much different after camp though One more thing we have all bought into this freshman class like we never have before. If these guys cant play which happens a lot we are in a whole lot of trouble
