I'm not saying you have to run around screaming hysterically, but it is time for rational fans to get into some serious pessimism about the 2017-18 Colts.
First and most obvious, we are over halfway through August and, as far as I know, we have not seen that the franchise QB is able to throw a football since 2016.
Second, losing Ryan Kelly for two months is an absolute disaster. The hoped for improvement of the O-line was centered (ha) around him. So, he comes back in 6-8 weeks - will there be lingering effects? will he be rusty for a while? Absolute disaster.
Third, while I'm sure the defensive personnel has upgraded since the pathetic showing last year, there is still a lot that has to come together before the Colts have even an NFL average defense. In other words, the defense is not such as to be able to carry a crippled offense.
On the plus side, a poor season, even with excuses, may be enough to give Chuck the boot. I'm to the point where I turn the radio or TV off whenever he is interviewed. He is simply not an intelligent man. I question whether his IQ is as high as 100. Regurgitation of standard football clichés defines the limit of his intellect. I am sick to death of him.

It's actually working out perfectly for Ballard to have ammo to get rid of Pagano. The Colts are going to be baaad.

Add in the bonus of a high draft pick next June (or whenever the funk they hold the NFL draft these days) and things are really coming together down on 56th Street!

Once Ballard gets the roster turned around and a GOOD coaching staff in there the Colts could be good again before lucks best days are behind him.

I've been pessimistic since late January when I saw a tweet that rumors of Ballard bringing a coach with him from KC were false and that Pagano was staying.
And while I can't stand Pagano and his never-ending volume of cliches and excuses, most of my anger is directed at our drugged-up owner who has kept him around this long and let this circus act fester. Any halfway competent franchise would have cleaned house after going 8-8 in the coach's final contract year when the team was viewed as a serious contender, especially after that cataclysmic shitshow of an AFC title game the year before. It made no sense whatsoever to keep him around, but then again, neither does driving through Carmel at 10 mph carrying a briefcase with $30,000 or tweeting nude photos (I know, he probably got hacked, but still).
God, I miss the Colts teams of the 2000's. It didn't matter if Polian wasted the first round pick that year or how badly the defense got pushed around because Manning would usually just go out and accidentally throw 5 touchdown passes. I wonder what high school Pagano will be coaching for next season?
