What is the word on our linebackers? I know we are all concerned about the secondary, but our linebackers are equally, if not more, inexperienced and unproven. Do we have any speed at the LB position? Can they make the sure tackles? Are any guys standing out? I'm sure there will be some missed assignments and some struggles, especially early in the season, but I am hopeful that we might see some young guys at the position with improved skill sets than what we've seen in the past.

We have RS Freshman Jaylin Thomas who is going to play a bunch he is a fast kid. Singleton and Jackson are not fast guys they are both pretty stiff imo. The speed is with the freshman but LB is a tough position for them to step right into. Freshman LB David Reuth looks like the one who will be getting some time he has looked pretty good the 3 or 4 times I have seen him

How have Reece and Robinson looked? Like you said it is tougher for Freshmen to start at LB, but do you think they will get some playing time?

To be quite honest I did not notice them in either scrimmage. That does not mean they were not out there at sometime or another. One of the practices I attended they were with "starters" in drills. Reese is a real nice guy who I look forward to seeing play when ever that may be.

Robinson will have to put on some weight before he can really be effective. He's can really move, but he's listed at 195 right now, which, at 6', he's more the size of a safety.

CardFan is right 195 is just too light. The guys who have been in the "ones group" are about 225-240

New episode of Chirp Chatter talks about the linebackers. Joel Godett interviews captain Jacob White. Joel mentioned that Robinson is getting lots of reps. The good thing is that it is a lot easier to gain weight than speed and athleticism. It is probably difficult at this time to know which freshmen will emerge. Certainly some of them will get significant playing time simply due to the fact that we have no returning starters at the position.

Have him contact me. I've been perfecting a great system that has worked for years.

Robinson was one of the recruits I was most excited about. Its been along time since we have had an explosive fast LB. If Robinson can play and be effective that will give us a couple that could be in there at times

It sounded like Jake has been impressed with Jaylin Thomas. It seems to me that he is the guy to watch this year.

Robinson has big potential. If he plays alot this year it remains to be seen if he will be strong enough to shed blockers, take the pounding, etc.

I am guessing that if Robinson plays this year, we will likely see him in passing downs in nickel coverages where speed and coverage is more valuable.

That makes sense.

It probably does. Just casually watching, it seems now quite common in the NFL to have a player normally more a SS play as a LB, even play in the box much more often, especially passing downs, but that could be any down. Guess it is like small ball in basketball.
Surely you have to change up to make it hard to take advantage of it by running up the gut, but as you say it does require a smaller guy who can take some punishment and probably have to have a big D line that can clog things up on a run.

His film was amazing something goofy happened last year with him not arriving to campus until the day before classes started. He still managed to dress and travel to all road games last year. Had he had a full camp he would have been playing as a true freshman. He also earned a single digit number which is a big thing with this staff
