I hope our defense performs better than the writers forecast of mediocre I'd be thrilled if our defense is mediocre this year.

Well The D line should be good but we are starting two true freshman safeties have two true freshman pushing the starting corners and a freshman LB as a primary back up. The question now switches too how good are these freshman? Can they make us better this year or are playing for next year already?

When you take a look at how many guys we will be starting who have never played in a college game or have no starts or fewer than a couple of starts it's a little scary. Literally, we could have four true freshman in the secondary on the filed at the same time. Against teams with a better than average QB we will get exposed. Trial by fire I guess.
By far our most experience is the O-line (42 career starts) followed the D-line (35). Neal, Walton & Gilbert combined for 32 starts last year. After that it is spotty.
No revelations that we must run well with our All-MAC RB behind our experienced line, stop the run and pressure the QB with our experienced D-line to protect our young secondary and ultimately it will fall as it should on our QB Riley to take a major step forward in leadership, decision-making and play-making. Still think 4-8 or 5-7 is likely and maybe we scratch out 6-6 if we get a few breakout performances by the newbs.

Are there any would be starters that are injured? Wasn't there another starter on the offensive line last year in Pat Maloney? He is not listed as 2nd string either. I believe in spring they had Joss at RT and Booker at LT, but now Joss is RG and he played LG last year. My guess is an injury to Maloney moved Joss in to guard and Booker from LT to RT and that is how Slaven got a starting spot at LT as a R-Fr?
