Ok guys I am admittedly not a big basketball guy when it comes to scouting/Schemes etc. I know more than joe blow and can point out obvious things but many of you know much more than I do. Im looking over Buffalos schedule, average stats, teams they have played etc. What am I missing? I have not been able to see them play yet. I know in years past they have pretty athletic but I guess Im just not seeing anything jump out this year.. So here is your chance call me an Idiot, dumbass or just enlighten me. Why are we so concerned with them?

They have played a very tough schedule, better than ours overall. They are very athletic with one of the best, if not the best guard in the conference in Massenberg. They are physical with length and can score the ball on the block and they are very active on the offensive glass. Wes Clark, a transfer from Missouri who was a double digit scorer for the tigers became eligible 4 games ago and is averaging 21’points a game in those 4 games giving Buffalo a lethal guard tandem. They play fast and protect the rim really well. They are a hard match up for us as they are physical inside, shoot the 3 pretty well and the guards can beat you off the bounce. I don’t like the matchup but the good news is the game is at home. Trey has struggled guarding Perkins so we need for him to own the paint. Interesting that Buffalo is bringing Perkins off the bench where he is averaging 15.5 pts and 8 rebounds. This game will give us an idea where we are as I think Buffalo will be the most talented team we play in the conference. Looking forward to Saturday.

Info on Clark. We would never admit this kid. We would have 28 years ago. Read below:
Buffalo Bulls Men’s Basketball has added an impact transfer in former Missouri point guard Wes Clark. Playing three seasons for the Tigers, Clark was dismissed last February for not meeting Missouri Athletics’ academic expectations.
In his junior year for Missouri, Clark averaged 9.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists. Clark started in all 25 games he was on the roster for that year and held a shooting percentage of 37%. He’s been described by our friends over at RockMNation.com as a physical and gritty player with a decent three point shot, particularly on the left corner of the arc.
This will not be the first time that Clark is coached by Buffalo head coach Nate Oats. Clark graduated from Romulus High School in Detroit, MI, where Oats had his first head coaching job. With an open scholarship in Buffalo’s hands, it’s this connection that probably brought Clark to Amherst.
Missouri dismissed Clark back in last February and released the following statement:
“Wes Clark has failed to meet the academic expectations of Mizzou Athletics Department and is no longer a member of the men’s basketball program. Due to this issue relating to academics, Mizzou Athletics will have no further comment” Clark has spoken to the media before and denies that it was for academics and that he quit the team for personal reasons. Regardless, Missouri’s Men’s Basketball team had the second-worst APR score last year at 941. The NCAA sanctions penalties for teams with scores below 930.

Scary thing is they have the talent to improve over the season. Buffalo looked amazing last time we saw them in Worthen. This team looks better.

Info on Clark. We would never admit this kid. We would have 28 years ago. Buffalo has a history of JUCO recruiting, and high turnover for various reasons. For all the good things about recruiting with Majerus, Hunsaker and Ray, all needed to tighten up a little bit back then. But to their credit, even compared to those days, Buffalo is probably more a revolving door. I don't like that as a Program trademark, and will not be surprised to see it bite them in the ass at some point, happy we don't go that route. That said, we are in a position with the high character kids we have, and within the standards the University expects, that we can afford to take a bit more of a chance than we have, if the right kid comes along. He has to be somebody who whatever troubles he has had, he will get with the program though. It's too damned easy to have a bad apple effect.

FWIW, I believe Buffalo and Miami are the only eastern division teams Whitford has wins against. I think he's beaten Buffalo a couple times.
This may need fact-checking...
EDIT: I checked myself and it looks like he also beat BGSU once.

I watched the Buffalo/Syracuse game and noticed that Buffalo was not intimidated at all. They attacked Syracuse a lot on offense, and got a lot of shots blocked or altered. Trey and Tahjai (maybe even Kyle) should be ready for this type of offensive style. I don't think home court advantage will benefit us or hinder them at all. Lord knows every home game the visiting team makes their first three shots and we miss our first eight shots.
I expect this game to be very similar to the EMU game. Buffalo's guards are athletic, but maybe a little too aggressive guarding the ball. In the Syracuse game they were called for so many on-ball blocking fouls it seemed like. Hopefully Tayler is ready to handle this pressure. When EMU switched from their zone to that press in the second half, it reminded me of the aggressiveness that Buffalo showed in terms of guarding the ball. We obviously looked shaky handling that EMU press initially, so I would expect that we see some strong on-ball defending again.
I think this game is going to be all over the place. There will probably be spurts of rapid-fire points because both teams will play fast, but then fatigue will catch up and there many scoreless possessions in a row.
Ultimately (I hope that I'm wrong), I think Buffalo wins this game. Many of you have mentioned Perkins on Buffalo, I don't think Trey can stop him based upon what I have seen from Trey so far. Trey did ok against Thompson from EMU, but foul trouble helped our cause in that case. Buffalo has a similar "hot head" on their team like Thompson from EMU. Jordan I think is the Buffalo player. I'm not sure if he's a starter, but he played a lot in the Syracuse game that I watched. He's a pesky guard that got called for many of the on-ball blocking fouls that I mentioned. He couldn't believe many of the calls and was very frustrated. Other players had to calm him down when he fouled out.
