Why do we never press until 60 seconds?!
Second half a bit better but our slow starts are killer

Got to turn the page quickly after that debacle. Did not come ready to play today. Western was definitely the better team today.

That’s why I keep saying playing Tyler Tyler had identical minutes to Kiapway and had four points and three turnovers, does it really make a difference ?

Laid a big egg today. Lost to a team we should have defeated. A couple more of these and you will know what type of team we have. They are discovering how hard it is to keep the intensity up game after game.

Teague very obviously had zero interest in playing today. 0-6 threes, 2 pts and a quick foul out. His mental softness and only play when I feel like it tendencies piss me off as much as anything. That kid has more ability and athleticism than anyone on the team but doesn’t get nearly as much as he could out of it. Once again, Persons appears to be the only one who has a heartbeat every time on the floor. Even when he isn’t playing well. The rest? Eh, if they’re going good they’ll get into it. If not, meh, whatever.
Whit has to find out what makes this team tick and kick its ass in gear for these conference games. Right now we look and play like a middle of the pack team that’ll go out in the first game of the MAC tourney. We flat lack mental and physical toughness.

We had no interior play today. We were clearly outplayed, out rebounded, out defended, out hustled, out coached today. Sellers played well and I like what I've seen from Ish since the Eastern Michigan game. Teague is not an outside player. I'd back off him all day and let him shoot 3s. Moses and Teague have to play under the basket. Today would have been a perfect day to give Zach Gunn some minutes to get him back in the rotation. I believe a change in the starting lineup is needed to get us out of the post sooner. I'm not seeing much from Kiapway lately. All in all a poor effort. Our bigs seem to diminish in size when we face taller, more physical players. We need someone with the junk yard dog mentality. I've seen Trey take it off soft so many times and Taj thinks he is a guard rather than a SF.

He also looks much more mechanical than last season, like he's nursing a leg injury or something. Teague has great potential, but he's been a mystery for much of this year.

Gunn must be more injured than they’ve said.
I absolutely fault Whitford for design of the “offense” and game plans that have gotten us off to very poor starts and misused players. Teague should not be on the perimeter at all. He should only be used 15 feet and in on offense. (Maybe even 10 feet in). He could be really good around the basket. Trey is a good passer, yes, but man we could use some post up offense from him. He passes out of the post a few too many times. Not aggressive enough in there when he could be getting buckets or drawing fouls. We’ve gotten Too reliant on kickouts, especially considering we aren’t hitting enough shots coming off kickouts. And, quite frankly as much as I like Francis he is not earning his playing time out there. We got dominated all over the court and in coaching. We are getting out toughed and outhustled. Just like the start of the MAC season last year. WHY? Why is it a trait of whits teams? Why are we unable to just come out the gates ready to play every night? We are far too reliant on hitting shots since we are apparently aren’t tough enough to win with defense and rebounding. (Defense and rebounding and taking care of the ball should be there every night even if shots aren’t falling.) If he wants to take this program to a championship and get himself a “better” job he’d better start coming up with answers or we still won’t get out of the Mac tourney and will have to consider a pay to play post season tourney yet again.

There was a scare with his knee right before the start of the season. Maybe he’s not 100%. But the way he was elevating and moving vs north Florida made me think he’s fine. Bottom line is sometimes he’s just not there.

One thing that really bugs me on defense with this team is this constant rotating of Moses or Teague out near or beyond the 3-point line in an attempt to trap or double-team the ball carrier. Once out there, they fail to get back under the basket in time to either guard the opposing Bigs or get the rebound. How can your PF or C rebound the ball when they are running around the free throw line when the ball hits the rim?

Helluva good question. The pack Line Defense whit allegedly runs or wants to run seems pretty easy to beat.

These slow starts are still killing us. I almost feel like Whit needs to script the first 10-15 plays like in football... something to get them in the flow of the game. Also, we need to get Persons offense started earlier in the game.
