Cards fall 3-0 to Morehead. Play UMASS Lowell again at 5.
No Sandy sighting at opening day.
Cards go to The Big Easy next week. A perfect opportunity for the Colonel to stretch his pre-retirement legs on the university dime?

A perfect opportunity for the Colonel to stretch his pre-retirement legs on the university dime? Guess he wasn't looking at retirement property around Charleston, S.C. I hear Mandeville, or Slidell are nice places, so yeah, he might show in Nawlins.

Another freshman on the mound for game 3. Kyle Nicolas, thru 5,has 9 SO’s, 1 hit, 0 runs.
Cards lead 1-0 as they come to bat.
Hits are few and far between today.

It’s always a pitchers advantage in first series, but Card pitchers have 41 SO’s in 3 games.

I always think the the team from the south has the advantage in early season baseball & that is how it played out. I think next week in New Orleans we face the same type of thing. So of the three I feel our best shot for a win will be Iowa.

I would agree if it were the next two series. Morehead is just East of Lexington. I would consider them to be a Northern tier team.
These three should have been a good match for an opening series. We just couldn’t hit Morehead’s pitching. All in all, a good 4 games and Maloney got to see a lot of players on both offense and defense.
I haven’t digested all the stats but we had a lot of hbp, wp, walks. To be expected this early (and using a couple of true freshmen), but a common theme from last year.
A lot of new guys and the hitters will start warming up in NOLA and MYR Beach. The Coastal Carolina series will be a good indicator of where this team might be.
