Obviously, how a team finishes down the stretch is a good indicator of how they may fare in the postseason. That definitely holds true for the Cards over the years.
- Only twice in 17 times since 80-81 have the Cards made it to any kind of postseason play with a .500 record in February (and one of those was CIT last year, so you can decide if you want to even count that one) and never with a losing record in February.
- Conversely, the Cards made a postseason tournament 11 of 19 times they finished February with an above .500 record since 80-81.
- In the post-season drought between 2002 and 2016, the Cards were a woeful 34-68 (.333) in February. That's mind-numbing.
I almost can rank the coaches by their February records and have a pretty good order of my opinion on their tenure. Interesting to note, however, that if you drop Whit's first two years, his February record is at .667, so he is definitely trending upward.
Here's a rundown of February records going back to the first NCAA tournament year...
Whitford (14-23 .378) 17-18: 4-1
16-17: 4-4 (CIT)
15-16: 6-2 (CIT)

10-11: 4-4
09-10: 4-4
08-09: 3-5
07-08: 2-5
-----------
Thompson (2-5 .286) 06-07: 2-5
-----------
Buckley (24-24 .500) 05-06: 2-6
04-05: 2-6
03-04: 4-5
02-03: 5-2
01-02: 5-3 (NIT)
00-01: 6-2
-----------
McCallum (37-19 .661) 99-00: 7-1 (NCAA)

OK, this is one of the best Ball U vs UT games I have ever seen. Great win. I was on the edge of my seat up until five minutes to go. I need to believe.

That's an intriguing post. I will say if this team can close year at least 3-1 to go 12-6 I honestly believe they could get to the MAC Finals, especially if they win their quarterfinal and face Toledo who BSU clearly has the number of. Buffalo without a doubt is the MAC favorite, but after that it's wide open.

We are not a team built for 3 games in 3 days. Bench thin, and if we draw a team we have to chase on the perimeter, recovery for the next game is going to be tough.
The draw, and upsets, who knows though?
I liked our chances better when we had more depth and more of a chance to have a lights out shooting game.

I said before the season I wanted us in the championship and contending. What I do not want is a first round turd laid. It seems like the odds are about 50/50 either could happen

Close to 50-50 round 1. After that?
Getting to Final not 50-50, probably 20-25%.

Checked out Toledo website & they are not a confident site. Most are hoping for a 2-2 finish & think BSU may win division on tie breaker. Most of them don't think they will beat EMU there & alot lack confidence in a win against EMU in final as well. We win them one at a time and see how it looks next Saturday night. Beat NIU!

Emu has been playing well lately.
We’ve proven we can lose to anyone. But with our recent play we’ve proven we can beat just about anyone. Buffalo being the big question mark. All depends on which team of ours shows up for the first round. Really rather not play Miami.

I’ve been lucky on my predictions lately....2 for my last 2.
I’m gonna pick Eastern to beat Toledo straight up!
If this occurs we need to take care of biz and still will need help but we could possibly catch Toledo and become the #2 seed! Not sure it matters other than winning the West!!

Emu faces Toledo twice and 3 of their last 4 are on the road. It’s not over yet. Cards could win out if they keep playing like they have been 6 of the last 7. Moses has been a beast and last game in foul trouble El Amin and Gunn took up the slack of Moses with 32 points. I also feel like Ish and Josh have picked up the lose of 2 key players. I think they are better now than when they won 9 straight. This team seems to get a little better each game. Having said that. 18-9 and 9-5 I like their chances to win out.

We hope rusty is right. But. The freshmen at best do not replace the quickness we lost. And we have one game where they stepped up.
