I'd laugh if tonight's Muncie Central vs New Castle high school game brought in a higher attendance number to Worthen than did Senior Night last night I wouldn't. And if tonight's game were at NC Fieldhouse instead of having to be moved from South, I think that would be the case.

I just hope our staff was there to see Gillis and that New Castle guard play the Cats. From what I heard it was a very nice crowd.

Gillis had a visitor waiting for him after his monster evening in Butler coach LaVall Jordan. Gillis, who is just a junior, has offers from Butler, Purdue, Xavier, Miami (Ohio), Toledo and IUPUI. He is planning on narrowing it to three schools by the end of the summer and then making a decision in the fall.
Looks like Gillis isn't even on BSU's radar

Maybe we just know we have no chance of signing him or he has said he has no interest in us

Maybe you offer the best local athlete. Maybe you offer a son of a great legacy of BSU basketball.

We did take a look at Bumbalough. Football has offered him. It’s a mystery as to why we were never involved in Gillis at all. Only thing I can think is whit felt we have enough at that position. Doesn’t bother Butler though... he’ll end up there it seems but we should have at least been near the front of the line to try.

I can’t imagine us totally passing on him without a good reason. All coaches want to improve their team and he’s a firm believer in recruiting Indiana.

It’s a mystery as to why we were never involved in Gillis at all. Only thing I can think is whit felt we have enough at that position. We really don't know the history here. I am not so sure position is a factor for us, but it may well be for the player who hopes to break in early. Whitford seems to willing to play 3 Forwards, or 3 guards, likes players who don't have a definite position. The Butler factor has to be big. Whether we like it or not Butler is now very strong with any top Indiana player. IU traditionally got most the best kids, occasionally Purdue. While Butler always found some kids from Indiana, now that they are a high major in basketball it's 3 very good programs we have to compete with for a top recruit, now are at least equal to Purdue. We give it some effort with all but the top 2 or 3 players who are realistically out of reach. Whitford has especially been active and pursued some of the better players as underclassmen trying to establish that link which might give us a chance, but realistically if the player is not a little under the radar we are going to have a hard time, especially when AAU ball leads these recruits to get interest from other national powers outside Indiana. You have to wonder if we would have signed Bonzi in today's environment. He got some interest from ND and other big schools but back then we really had a special chance and a very strong local advantage. Family ties in town. MC ties, history of other MC players at BSU, much less national exposure even for a great player. None of that would be quite the same if Bonzi was coming up now.

Maybe you offer the best local athlete. Maybe you offer a son of a great legacy of BSU basketball. I'd bet we were in contact early on. I guess I don't see "the offer" as that big a deal. But I do like the legacy angle and here there is a family history at BSU and lots of contact over time, so I'd bet there is a reason and this is not a case of neglect.

he isn’t going to Toledo or Miami. unless he has some sort of serious Injury he is going to somewhere better than than the MAC I got out of work last night and caught the end of his game against Muncie Central which was played at Worthen. I think he had 34 16 and 5. After the game the broadcaster said LaVall and the rest of Butler’s coaching staff was there to watch him and as soon as the game was over they went and talked to him. I would almost put money on Butler getting him to sign this summer. The Bumbalough kid for New Castle may be somebody we want to look at. Edit: Apparently we have offered him...for football though
