I posted this after our ND, ISU and Valpo games and it is time to do it again. We ranked the D1 teams in the state and most agreed our Cards were anywhere between 3 and 5. Many argued we were better than Butler and IU. In prior years we, according to the Indy Star and kenpom, we were the weakest program in the state. I thought this was our breakout year, but, for a variety of reason which don't matter here, it didn't materialize. We are presently only rated higher than IUPUI. Side note: even the lowest rated Missouri Valley Conference team is rated higher than BSU. Here is my list. Purdue is a no-brainer at #1. 2. Butler. 3. Tossup between IU, ND, Valpo, Evansville, Indiana State. 8. Fort Wayne. 9. BSU, 10. IUPUI.

Next year. When Whit gets all his recruits on the floor, it will be next year. Next year is our break out year. Next year.

According to Sagarin and KenPom ND, IU stronger than those others you call a toss up. And, after the top 4 power conference schools the rest are within a point or two in rating strength except IUPUI. Within a buzzer beater shot. Indiana's mid majors are this year very "mid." A few years ago we were the IUPUI, and Valpo until recently was separated from the others. During this year we have been ranked at the top of the "rest" although obviously in a tailspin now. A reasonable goal would presumably be to move up to where Valpo has been.

Purdue is good, Butler isn't terrible, and everyone else is awful.

Purdue is good, Butler isn't terrible, and everyone else is awful. IU and ND fans must be disappointed, but the two teams are not actually awful. Sagarin about 80. Just feels that way to their fans, perhaps "average" for the power conferences. The 4 big guys are pretty far ahead of the rest.

Metrics aside, I'd slot us ahead of ISU, Evansville, and maybe Valpo. On the simple, old-fashioned metric that we beat two of the three. Still only good for middle of the pack though. I also think we could beat IU head-to-head because they play to their competition something awful.
