To be fair, Butler hit a freaking home run like 4 times in a row with their hires. That is almost impossible to do and probably won't ever happen again for a program.

Well I think Collier, Lickliter and Holtmann were all solid but not home runs, Matta and Brad Stevens were home runs, and Brandon Miller was a disaster.

I know some think that Butler having Holtmann on staff when Miller couldn't continue was some great bit of planning.
I tend to think to think it was more luck than anything else. Hitting a home run with Holtmann would have been hiring him as head coach a year earlier, but they hired Miller instead.
What Butler lucked into was a bunt single with a three-base error.

We could have hired Holtman before that. Tom Davis was advocating for him. But our leadership was smarter than that......

Probably true. No doubt there was a bit of luck involved. But still, 4 hires by a competent, savvy character like Barry Collier is like Hank Aaron going to the plate four times, whereas BSU has been sending up Rafael Belliard.

Not that I see Whitford and Holtmann as equals in terms of coaching, but Whitford does have one more conference tournament victory in the past four years than does Holtmann.
Different levels of conference competition, but you compete at the level you compete at ... I imagine Ohio State fans are wondering why the athletics administration there would hire someone who could never win anything of importance in the Big East.

Of course tOSU fans are not exactly the standard for objective judgment on the matter.

I don't expect to be 1997-current Butler ever but to not even be close to Buffalo in the last 4 yr is troubling.

I'm sure I'll get a little busted up for this, but could it be the success of Butler and Indiana State (to some degree) is their ONLY major sport is basketball? Yes, I know they have football teams but they are D-1AA FCS. I am no expert in regards to the finances of universities, but comparing the programs isn't apples to apples, yes? If I am being an idiot, by all means, fire away. Both bball seasons (mens and womens) were extremely disappointing this year. So much potential and *poof*, gone. It's not a coincidence Butler started a four year phase-out of scholarship football the same year they doubled the basketball budget and hired Barry Collier as coach. No kidding? I did not know that.
