We host 19-16 Indiana State on Wednesday. ISU has to travel to NIU for a game on Tuesday, then has to travel to Muncie.
Will be interesting since we host NIU (13-25) for three next weekend.
NIU took 2 of 3 from Miami this weekend.
Also, former coach Greg Beals brings Ohio State (27-11) to Muncie on Wed, May 2nd (10 days). OSU won 2 of 3 vs. IU this weekend.

Well to those of you who have watched this team play do you see anyway this team gets it together & can possibly win in the tourney? What is the likelihood of this team getting to 30 wins (currently 19-20 with probably 18 more games. My impression is they are a 500 team & probably finish 27-28.

Not sure how Simmons was given 2 earned runs on the 3 base error in the third. Don't get me wrong the pitching, other than Floyd and the two at the end, wasn't good, but that error was awful and really seemed to knock the wind out of the team for awhile. I do believe Maloney is doing the right things on these mid-week games when it comes to the pitching. He's trying to get innings for multiple pitchers, it worked at Purdue, not so much the last two. The opportunity is there for guys to get some innings on weekend games they've just got to capitalize. Really right now those conference games are what count.

Pretty much all teams will "pitch by committee" during the midweek games. You just build it in to the bullpen schedule. But we averaged 21.7 pitches an inning yesterday. If you are not at least in the 15-16 per inning, or better yet, 12-14 per inning range, you gotta question what you are doing. Yep. You do emphasize the weekend conference series, but this is Indiana State, a traditional rival, and and a program that's been to Omaha before. You do want that win.

cardfan said "pretty much all teams pitch by committee during midweek games". IU did against us, but Purdue's starter went 6 innings and ISU's went 5 so the teams playing us aren't doing it.
Of course you play to win, but this staff is such a wreck, he's got to find a couple of guys to standout or we'll have the same mess we had last Friday. Maloney doesn't trust anybody to take over in the 9th. The only way he can salvage anything for the rest of the year is to find that guy. I'd rather he audition guys on a Wednesday and take a loss.

Sure they are. Just look at their schedules and their other midweek games. This week, ISU had a Tuesday game vs. NIU, then BSU on Wednesday. ISU pitched 7 guys vs. NIU in a 5-4 loss. They pitched 3 against BSU. 10 pitchers in two days. You jump to a 3-0 lead vs. BSU after 2, and a 6-1 lead after 3, and you've used 7 pitchers the day before, I think you can go with the starter a bit longer against BSU. When we played Purdue, it was a Tuesday game, two days after a 3 game series vs. IU. Purdue threw 7 guys on Sunday vs. IU, then threw 3 against BSU. Teams pitch by committee during the mid-week games to get a regular bullpen schedule for their pitchers, if they don't they are adjusting to tight schedules, or adjusting a pitchers rotation.

Am I confused or did I see a preseason or early season article about this team touting good recruits to make strong pitching staff? Or are these guys just young and having trouble adjusting?
I am more just a fan who has always had a casual interest, always have known a few of the players from classes and enjoys the games in fair weather, than somebody who really knows college baseball and lives and dies with it, but these games with so many pitchers unable to find the strike zone seem quite unusual whatever the level of competition.
As that casual fan, these games are not so much fun. It's a merry go round with batters getting on base without swinging, and I can't remember so many games where you can neither get an out or even tempt the batter to go after a close one and hit a ground ball!

As someone who goes to most of the games, it's not much fun either. Especially when the temps are in the thirties.
