This is interesting from Coach Neu
More
I am happy to announce some academic success from our football team this past semester:
Team GPA = 3.0
43 Players = 3.0+
3 Players = 4.0
16 Players = 3.5-3.99
24 Players = 3.0-3.49
So maybe Im wrong but if you choose to spin it the other way this would mean roughly 60 players were under a 3.0 correct?
Anyone know if 43/100 players above a 3.0 is above average for an FBS team?

Very interesting question but I would like to know what the average student GPA is and then compare against that benchmark.
None the less it is good to see that many guys at 3.0 or better.

The team GPA of 3.0 is what matters most though I guess

Ok So I dug up what I could Penn State had 51 players over 3.0 Ohio State had 44 over 3.0 but has not had a team gpa higher than 2.92 in the last 8 years
Ball States APR is 955 while the average is about 966.. This is a rolling 4 year number that uses mor factors than just grades. Transfejrs/players just leaving etc plays a major role in this.. So the attrition from some bad Lembo classes and the New staffs cleansing probably has really hurt this number

So if you read all these rankings and use little common since it be safe to say we are about average. Maybe just a hair below average

Over 5 years up to 2017. That rating is #76. Not bad.
But. APR is mostly about just staying eligible, progress toward graduation. Not exactly same as gpa.
Where to worry.
Coaching change does have some potential to be different. Previous coach recruiting was probably not quite as much risk academically. It will be a few years to tell how well we do in graduation rate. More kids from South, more underclassmen in 2017 where that APR standard is easier to meet.
We'll have to see. I'd guess we'll be down just a bit when we see that first class graduate.

Maybe just a hair below average I wasn't expecting private school type numbers, but wan't expecting to be tied with the WKU, Troys of the world. Hey, we beat Florida State, but everyone else did except FIU, La Tech, Georgia Southern & Idaho. We didn't even fit in the SEC range.

speaking of football academics, Cody Rudy was accidentally shot in the back by a friend over the weekend. Yes, alcohol was involved. He's expected to make a full recovery.
