PLOT TWIST: We're re-hiring Tom Collins. He gave his 2-week notice at Applebee's today.

Press conference lacked excitement. Not impressed with initial impression. Hope my first impression is proven wrong.

Not sure on this one guys.. She is saying the right things though She looks good on paper. I love the fact she has worked with some pretty impressive basketball programs. Brad Stevens had high praise for her when she got the job at Connecticut. Stevens Quote "Beth is a great hire for the UConn Athletic Department," said Stevens. "As I've said before, she's one of the best leaders that I've been around. She empowers those that work with her and leads with her integrity, intelligence and selflessness. I feel fortunate to have had a chance to work with her at Butler and look forward to following her continued, positive impact on college athletics at UConn."

Her resume is solid, but she's spent last couple of jobs in more progressive blue-state type areas - not sure her persona will "fly" in Muncie. Let's surely hope it's not another Andi Seger situation.

Let's surely hope it's not another Andi Seger situation. I don't see that. Except the part that she might not be accepted in Muncie (BSU) and that she will be compared to Seger, of whom more than few have no fond memories. But I don't see her as really similar either. Andi was here a long time, much more the internal candidate than the "up and coming" high profile external candidate with a great resume elsewhere.

I like the hire. This woman does not come to bsu to make it a retirement 2.0,she is young enough to want to build stronger resume to go to power type school. I'd say give her a chance lets see what she can improve.

One of the nastier things about affirmative action, and other gender and race based hiring, is that its existence gives you a logical, fact-based reason to be skeptical whenever a person from a government-privileged group is hired....even when the hire is actually justified on merit alone. But unless you are privy to the hiring process, you can't really know.

To some extent you trust the market in terms of what you get for what you pay. But we probably got an applicant pool commensurate with the pay offered. (on the low side I believe, but then this is BSU)

I've done that with previous administrations, and I ended up with jack squat.

Press conference lacked excitement. Not impressed with initial impression. Hope my first impression is proven wrong. Not much of an impression. Probably by design. The interview with Joel on the YouTube channel shows her more relaxed, less formal. Not a real extreme high energy, dynamic person. But smart and hard working, thoughtful. More the servant leader model, building a team, listening, looking for collaboration. Even with due dilligence she can't really know what she has to work with, so setting goals, saying anything specific not what I'd expect. Doesn't look like Mearns wanted a kick ass, command type leader. Or a super slick, brash salesman. Bubba was more that way, but he ended up doing his best sales work selling Bubba, so perhaps that's OK... Quiet leader type, easy to see her working well with Mearns.
