Here is my solution to BeerGate... Use the area behind the student section to make the Cardinal Beer Garden.. Line up some tents BSU has hundreds of them.. Get a decent amount of workers filling the cups and more than 2 cashiers ringing up sales.. Beers ended up costing 5 dollars and some change after charging tax round that up to 6 bucks.. Cashiers digging up loose change just takes to long.. Add some screens around so people can keep up with the game.. I know there needs to be electricity out there but thats an easy fix.. A carnival can be set up in a parking lot so a beer garden can be made at the stadium If people just mill there so be it they are in the stadium and spending money I do like the idea of a beer garden, and space wise it would seem to be a natural to place it behind the student section. However, that's also right behind the alcohol-free zone, the announcement of which probably gave me the biggest laugh of last night since there was absolutely nobody sitting there. I guess when people actually start sitting in Section Q, you know you've got a problem.

This is a pilot program. Still feeling it out.
They are using one of the apparel booths, with no keg dispensers on bar tops (keeping cost down to start). Beer is from bottles, but poured into cups.
They are serving Angry Orchard (ehh), Budweiser, Bud Light, Coors Light, Miller Light. Probably a good choice to start with low octane beers. A beer costs $5, and you can only take two at a time.
The problem is that the booth is very slow. They ID you every time, take your cash or card, then pull the bottles and pour each beer.
I would have ID verification done once with a wrist band, like at concert venues. Invest into bar tops with keg delivery system to pour beers quicker, and when demand is understood, pre-pour beers so they can be grabbed quicker.
I think BSU has not invested into streamlining this process until they understand a few things. It could have some great potential. I would add wine as well. Some folks cannot have hops or barley products for medical reasons.

[soapbox]Why no local beers? Would it kill them to find a local canned beer (say... Sun King?) or at least a regional craft option? Why pour from can to cup? Afraid ppl will throw the cans? If they are going to fill cups, why not cut their expense and time and have kegs instead? Better yet, cut a lot of time and get a Bottom's Up... [/soapbox] There are 4 breweries that I can think of in Muncie. Let them host it and let Ball State take a cut. Elm Street Books and Brews The Guardian New Corner Also, Wolves Head (Heorot), Thr3e Wise Men (well, kinda, as I don't think they actually brew in Muncie). Problem with all listed is that none of the Muncie breweries package in cans/bottles (which seems to be the current option). That's why I listed Sun King, but could be Central State, Flat 12, etc. Until they can serve from a jockey box or something, they likely won't switch to kegs. And I totally understand that "beer for the common folk" line (though most local breweries brew a pale lager or kolsch as well). I don't begrudge people for drinking what they like, be it Bud or whatever (though I really don't care for the lobbying they do to hamper local brewery growth, but I digress). Sure, serve one or two pale lagers, but there are 120+ beer styles in the world... Even if you are just sticking to macro, mix in some other popular styles... Blue Moon, Goose Island (312, pale or ipa), etc. I know I would have a real uphill battle on this point, but to serve the list they serve is like serving 5 varieties of chardonnay as your only wine options. That would never fly for wine folks (who want variety, and where you usually see smaller wine lists have one per style for maybe 5-6 different styles), but for some reason it will fly for the beer folk (where way too many places only carry several varieties of macro pale lager). No problem when I run into this... I generally just drink water in those cases. Just always catches me as odd. Sorry, beer nerdism shining through, and I'm not at all in a position to have skin in the game as I rarely get to drive up for a game. More that I like the idea of supporting local businesses over multi-national conglomerates based in Belgium...
