NIU beat a good EMU team on the road in the third OT today. They will come in to Muncie with an identical record 2-3. NIU has played a tough schedule, and I have to believe they’ll be favored against us. Who wants to guess the opening line? I’ll start.
-8 NIU

They have a much better defense than Kent St. I watched the end of the game today and their qb did not impress me. Good runner, but not much of a passer. In the early going this year that suits the BSU defense better. The athletic linebackers have done a pretty good job with mobile qbs. Accurate passers can torch the secondary.

We are what, 0 for a decade vs niu or something? So until we beat them we’ll never beat them again.

I do think they have a better shot against NIU than Toledo or WMU. We’ll find out as the season goes on, but I think NIU has taken a small step back in the division.
My prediction. 31-28 NIU.

I think this will be a similar outcome to the 2016 game when BSU lost 31-24.I think NIU wins by around a score. Maybe 34-27 this time.

I'm going to guess line is NIU -5.5. In Dekalb I think it's -11.5 with standard 3 points for home field.

I think the opening line will be 9.5. NIU's defense to me is better than WMU & probably Toledo's as well.

I’ll pick BSU 35 - 28. The “O” will continue to improve and the “D” continues to get stronger. Good times are a coming!

The recent poor oline play really forced us to open up the playbook because the staff knew the run game was not going to be great. This in turn made us look like a different team to Kent State. They were prepared for our typical run and short pass game.. We came out and surprised them. In a perfect world we balance that but that requires fixing a beat up broken oline.
Some thing is going on with Hall not sure what it is but something is up. He did not start yesterday and really has not been what we saw last year. I think some of it is defenses have keyed on him and he is no longer a "secret" Hopefully NIU now has to plan for a somewhat different offense and this allows Hall to get some more looks.
Riley Miller had a career day and played like we have never seen him play before. We can not count on that every game but he is now a real threat to planning teams. Still Need A wr hopefully Yo heinz to step up and take over the other side. Then Have LAC and HaLL doing their thing over the middle

The Defense is better but the secondary is still not very good. We still missed lots of assignments over the middle and our out of position quite a bit. Cosby is doing ok must of the problems are coming from the other safety. Myles Hanna got some play yesterday he was a highly touted recruit so maybe he can start helping. For what ever reasons no one had really attacked our corners until yesterday. Kent did some and had some success
We have done a good job not giving up multiple huge touchdowns and I think our LB group has a ton of potential
Dline has been ok but still need another playmaker
I like that we are playing plus 20 kids on D. Last year we had no options and had to throw the same group out there

Take this for an omen if you want, but earlier last week I was on a sports trivia game show. I was the team captain for my team. My team competed against local sports radio personalities and celebrities. The team captain for the other team is a big Chicago sports fan an openly talks about NIU on the radio. Long story short, my team won so Ball State beat some sort of NIU representation already. Let’s make it two times on Saturday!

I love being the underdog. Nobody outside of our lockeroom or homer fans is going to expect us to win. We should come out playing like we have nothing to lose. Open up the offense and take a couple chances on defense.
