The Defense is better but the secondary is still not very good. We still missed lots of assignments over the middle and our out of position quite a bit. Cosby is doing ok must of the problems are coming from the other safety. Myles Hanna got some play yesterday he was a highly touted recruit so maybe he can start helping. For what ever reasons no one had really attacked our corners until yesterday. Kent did some and had some success We have done a good job not giving up multiple huge touchdowns and I think our LB group has a ton of potential Dline has been ok but still need another playmaker I like that we are playing plus 20 kids on D. Last year we had no options and had to throw the same group out there Our safeties just can’t seem to track the ball. Several opportunities for picks or break ups yesterday and totally whiffed.

That's a home field spread plus a couple. Basically it is a toss up.

Maybe Cardfan should predict another big Ball State victory? It worked pretty well last week.

That's a home field spread plus a couple. Basically it is a toss up. I think you have it backwards. That means they'd be about an 8 point favorite at a neutral location and about a 10-11 point favorite on their field.
I'm gonna guess they'll get their usual 600 yards of offense while our defense looks surprised by everything they repeatedly do.

One play stands out it was a long pass down the middle. The safety was step for step with the receiver and in good position but never really found the ball. Never looked back to find it. They are still playing not to screw up generally it becomes instinctual. Still might eventually come the safeties are young

I thought. He ran right past the play and missed everything. We had two guys there who could’ve made a play and neither one did. Wilborn isn’t making the impact expected at linebacker but Thomas has been good.

I agree on Wilborn he is good but we hyped the hell out of him.. Hope he progresses as well. I will say this the team speed is much better on the defensive side. We are no longer just slower than everyone else. We are inconsistent and make some bone head plays but so far we are better and still young. I still do not know about our corners we will have to see how they respond when they are really tested.. Injuries to Anderson and Larsen Forced them to put Hannah out there at saftie. I want to see more of what he can do

We never really got to see what Larsen could do with all his injuries. He was a pure safety with good instincts.

The other things that help are pressure, sacks and turnovers.. They erase mistakes and allow suspect Defenses to survive. Like I said a defense in the mac does not have to be great sometimes Timely is what you need. In our wins and at ND we got a ton of pressure sacks and turnovers. Our losses we did not

The Huskie defense is coming off one of its best performances of the season last week at Eastern Michigan. After EMU scored on its first two possessions, NIU did not allow a first down on its next nine possessions and held the Eagles scoreless for more than 51 minutes of actual game time.
2017 Consensus All-American Sutton Smith has 10.5 tackles for loss and five sacks in 2018, while forcing fumbles on two of those sacks and adding a blocked punt. Smith has at least one tackle for loss in nine straight games and in 17 of NIU's last 18 contests.
