I can't say enough about this kid. 391 yards and 4 TDs. Pretty damn good for a true freshmen. Future is bright for the Cards with him under center. Just hope the defense doesnt wasted the 4 years we have him.

The future is not bright unless and until we put more emphasis on defense and recruit some head hunters. We cannot outscore the better teams on our schedule every season. With the Cardinals putting virtually no pressure on the other teams QB we do not stand a chance. Our pass defense and pressure on the NIU QB and receivers did not exist. He only had three nor four incomplete passes out of more than thirty. thrown. I agree that Neal is a tremendous talent but he will need a lot of help.

Pete has failed to adequately address the defensive side of the ball his entire tenure. I suggest he maybe should get more involved with the defense and take at look at everything we do there, from recruiting to schemes to the coaching.

He's a big time stud and will only get better. Be a shame if we score 41 all the time but lose.

Cardfan, I agree completely with you and in fact months ago I suggested that he do exactly what you proposed. I said he should look at every aspect of the defense including coaches, schemes, training methods, types of athletes we recruit for the defense, etc. If he doesn't do this he will never achieve the results he wants. If you can't stop anyone you will have trouble winning. We were very fortunate with Wenning and company winning close games...quite frankly we were spoiled. We are not winning those close contests now and it hurts. We shall see what transpires.

I think this is one topic everyone in the Ball State fan base can agree on.

I to agree with you guys, but why do we virtually never recruit pass rushers...ok, exception Newsome. Also, we always play a defense designed to bend but not break although it often seems broke....we never seem to design many schemes designed to get after the passer

Pete plays it safe on defense. And We try to recruit pass rushers but they don't seem to pan out.

I think Winbush will be pretty good. But when we do good what we think is a "good" recruit, they just never become what we thought they would be. Always seem to have decent linebackers just never much else.

I always wonder if we're playing the right guys, too.

Always seem to have decent linebackers just never much else. My point exactly. If we are recruiting the same type of players for the defensive line and they are not evolving into the players we want we have to change our criteria. Again, my solution is look at EVERYTHING from square one and see if we can improve the method.

We do, we just for the most part don't get them. By them I mean impact guys. We mostly get developmental guys you hope can become players. Wmu, Toledo, and other schools like that kick our butts in getting the athletes.
