Buffalo could fit in well with the American Conference. However, they will need to sustain their level of play for at least 2 more years

So while very impressive, beating Arizona and an opening win at a top 25 school and conferences come for you? Other teams that moved up had to do a little more to earn, I think.
I am wagering Buffalo is not anyone's radar at the moment. And what they have done to end last season and begin this one is quite impressive.

They are on the way out of the MAC. Have potential draw and resulting funding, have some TV market to offer. Same has been said about Toledo for years. I don’t see it happening!

Also watched the closing minutes of the Toledo vs Oakland game, disappointing. Though Toledo won, it did not show case the MAC well. Hopefully can have a good game against Purdue. Pretty sure Oakland is a solid team so it doesn’t surprise me at all.

History suggests the 4 or 5 true major conferences reorganize, expand, creating vacancy at the next level down. So who knows where the opportunity might be. Buffalo, with improving football might have options a school like Butler did not. Or they might get smart and stay lower level in FB. (Oops, I forgot how high level MAC FB is.) What conceivable option could buffalo have that's better than the big east? Unless you mean they would have some additional options that are worse.

Sort of. All depends on how much football they really want.

Buffalo top 50 in Sagarin ratings this week. If they improve, could be top 40. They might be in line for an at large bid if they stumble in the conference tourney at that lofty ranking.
Notable that BSU is top 80 for the first time in a long time. That may not make the MAC a two bid conference, but it starts to look like an NIT bid is possible for us if we can maintain that level of play.
MAC is 12th best conference, above the middle for D1.

IMO buffalo is a top 25 team. Possible. Bad for our chance to win the MA, but also some good for us and the MAC if they do play that way all year.
Could make the MAC this year potentially as good as it has ever been. Not sure that would gain the respect of the tournament committee or not, but the idea we would be a conference with perhaps 2 NIT bids and/or are at least considered for a second NCAA bid would be good news. Unfortunately they don't have our schedule where they'd get a crack at some good teams on neutral court. Have two good teams scheduled in Marquette, Syracuse, but on the road.
If they beat those two teams, may get some top 25 mention. Have to sweep through the MAC season maybe.

And BSU is ranked in top 100 (not 200) by several rating systems. Actually 63 in Sagarin today which is highest in a very long time.
That is higher than it should be very probably, but we have notable room to improve so we may be able to settle in within top 100 if we do.

We would have to win at least 2 games in the upcoming tournament and beat Buffalo to stay in the top 100. The MAC has dropped to 13th and 14th in the Sagarin and I don't see it getting any better.

Sagarin is built on margin of victory, so if we play close to these good teams and win double digits in typical MAC games, we will be top 100 in power ratings, including KenPom.
In RPI losses hurt more, wins over good teams help more. Might be in trouble there, have to win most MAC games probably.

You know you are pretty good when you go on the road to Southern Illinois, shoot only 35%, your best player only gets 7 and you still win by double digits. Buffalo 62 Southern Illinois 51. Buffalo 22-62 from the field; 8-28 from 3pt; 8-12 from the free throw line.
