Year 4. If memory serves me, and I’m certain it does, the immortal Brady Hoke extended his losing streak with a 5-7 record in his 4th year. Neu is destined for greatness.

That was put out with a purpose.
So, let’s hope mike has the guts to shake up his staff. Otherwise expect more of the same next year. I’m sure the transfers aren’t done this month. Hard to look forward to next season right now unless a few changes are made.

Click on the coach and get some details of the contract.
Neu's contract is ranked lower than most if not all MAC coaches, but a buyout is still a big chunk. Not like we are going to find the money to buy out and enough money to attract a top MAC coach on that budget and based on our facilities, other factors.

Well I would like to see Mike get his 5 years to turn the program in a positive direction.
If after 5 and we still have medicore performance like we are experiencing then move on.
I would have to see at least 5 or 6 wins next year and nothing less than 7 in year five - IMO.
If that happens address a boost in overall compensation with new contract.
Mike is one of “ours” and we offered a 5 year deal which he obviously felt he needed.
So barring a catastrophy next season I would give him the fifth year.
If he can go and win 7 games get a bowl invite then we should be on solid ground to continue what he built if we provide the resources like an indoor practice facility.

Most football coaches get 5 year deals. We have been far less than mediocre. As far as I’m Concerned next year is it if we show no more progress. And I mean 6 wins and bowl eligibility. This goes way beyond wins and losses. This is about getting worse as each season has gone on. It’s about a terrible lack of fundamentals and discipline. It’s about the lack of solid game plans and inability to make adjustments. It’s about coming off a road win and falling completely flat at homecoming vs EMU. It’s about being up 21-7 on Miami with less then two minutes left in the half and somehow mismanaging that little bit of time into 2 Miami TD’s and then bring a crap show the rest of the game. It’s about the repeated physical and mental mistakes game after game. It’s about going toe to toe with ND at ND on national TV and then losing AT HOME to a one win WKU team. It’s about players not developing and then leaving. It’s about demoting guys like James Gilbert who has given his body up for this program. Etc etc etc. we’ve seen the same movie every year. With no changes we’ll see the same movie again next year.
We can’t be too blind and homerish with Mike. He’s not earned it in terms of his program. Long time, big time supporters of the football program are disgusted. All we’re doing is wasting time and letting the program die on the vine at this point.
And I like mike! He’s one of my favorite BSU Players. I desperately want him to succeed. But unfortunately when you can see it’s not working you can see it’s not working. And you see and hear about dysfunction and tension among the players and you see guys deciding to do it their way and not what the coaches are teaching. That kind of culture can’t be allowed to continue.

You have valid points cardfan and I feel much the same on most of them.
I can live with a five win season next year if the losses are competitive ones and we clean up on the very correctable penalties.
I also think we need to look at the hurdles we have in place that need to be overcome and directly impact our ability to recruit and develop players once we recruit them.
So putting money into strength and conditioning as well as an indoor facility are critical.
One can speak volumes on the need for an indoorfacility and how the lack there of stings our recruiting and player retention.
I fully realize there are many other factors to developing a great foundation for success but the two I mentioned are glaring shortfalls that Mike has no control over.
It is what drives me to want to give him the full five years of his contract but regardless the University must fix!

I agree. But, Mike has got to show he can turn this thing around and he's got to show he's willing to replace staff. What saved Brady Hoke's ass? Going out and getting Stan Parrish. Otherwise Brady was toast.

Its on MIke to do what it takes to get this done. Next year anything less than 6-8 wins and a bowl should be looked at as a failure. I can not see that happening but that is what it is. You cant bring him back for 5th year without extending him and you will not get a single quality recruit with a lame duck coach. It would put us in an even bigger hole

The real issue with Neu getting his five years is it's not really five years. He can't go into his last year of the deal without an extension. No decent recruit wants to sign with a lame-duck coach who has one year left, so at the end of next season you either have to extend him or let him go. Am I missing this? I'm not sure 5 wins is enough either unless most of our losses are close and we don't fold down the stretch. Still think we need a new DC at the very least.

You are correct. Next year is make or break. Coaches usually don’t get the exact full length of their original contracts. They are either fired or extended prior to their final year.
And yeah, we desperately need a new DC, but I can’t see neu pulling that trigger on a family/lynch buddy.
