Not sure anyone cares, but Akron is playing for its second College Cup (NCAA Men's Soccer) championship since 2010 tomorrow. I think it's pretty cool, and Akron's support for Soccer is a model that we've let slip away for several years now. There are specific sports that aren't that expensive we could have poured resources in with competing at a nation l level in mind, such as baseball, women's volleyball, and men's volleyball. Men's VB doesn't excite me as much because it is so low profile (only about 60 programs nationwide), but the other two sports do. Bat like pretty much everything else, strategy pretty much eludes BSU. Sigh.

We would have been near the top with the bowling program had the state not eliminated most of the crowds with smoking bans
.....a night at the alley with a draft Old Milwaukee and a non-filtered Winnie......wow, what an experience.....

Who would this appeal to, and why would we care about appealing to them?

Zips fall short in final game 1-0
Just once I’d like to see a championship soccer game end 10-9......

Soccer does not offer much bang for the buck. In the US, it still hasn't become a sport that is in demand, outside of large cities with a large Hispanic population.
You could put millions into facilities, pay a top coach hundreds of thousands a year, and hope to win a national title... for what?
Even IU, with their multiple national championships, draws only a few hundred to their games.
Rate of return is very poor. Almost as bad as football. That's another rabbit hole we don't need to go down.

You know, a 13-6 football game is really a one-nil game. There was really only one real score. It's just that football counts true scores as 7 points, and allows a way to get partial points if you come close to scoring, but can't quite make it.
Do you find one score football games like this boring due to lack of scoring?

Luckily those games are very rare.

Well I guess if you find extra points and field goals exciting, then 13-6 is a action packed, multi score game. But if you find extra points and field goals exciting it's amusing that you criticize other sports and their scoring.

If you love soccer that much you should argue for a rules change to do away with any scoring except FGs.

I'd rather watch a 0-0 soccer game (EPL/Bundesliga/Champions League level) than sit through an entire NFL broadcast. Now that I'm in my 30's I find both of them pretty boring, but actually having to sit there from 1 to 4:30 to watch about 10 minutes of actual action in the NFL would have me pulling my hair out. Having to watch any MLS would also be torture.

I'm a fan of both sports, and they are like banana milkshakes and strawberry milkshakes....just a matter of taste.
It's just amusing when a football fan, who would happily spend 3 hours of their life totally engrossed in their team's defensive struggle without touchdowns, professes to be unable to understand the appeal of a 1-0 soccer game for soccer fans who appreciate the nuances of the sport.
Another example is a 1-0 pitchers duel in baseball that might involve multiple runners in scoring position who are left stranded. These can be incredibly tense and gripping, especially if you are into one team or the other.
Football fans and soccer fans criticizing each other's sports are among the most stupid and pointless sports discussions.
