Mallers has been really off his game....he's not scoring or even rebounding very well. I understand the knock on Gunn is defense, but he has been more productive than Mallers as of late offensively....and frankly, I only saw one bad play last night defensively where he got beat off the dribble.
Do you think Mallers minutes will drop and Gunn's may increase as a result?
Truth is without Hazen we need them both to contribute more.

Definitely could be a time share going forward, I agree.

Gunn fouled out in 17 minutes and had 3 points. He can’t defend and he can’t stay on the floor.

I understand thats been the knock on Gunn but he played pretty hard the past couple of games defensively...not saying great but adequate, but offensively he has been more productive than Mallers for minutes played.

Absolutely agree we need a lot more out of Kyle. He’s been a ghost out there.

My objection to Gunn is the law of averages will result in very bad games. In games where he hits under his average he will waste a lot of possessions, contribute basically nothing else, and be a defensive liability. He's so one-dimensional that the highs will never be that high but the lows can be extremely low.

Mallers did a decent job passing the ball last night. He isn't getting good looks though so not sure what's going on

As much I as hate to admit this but I was sooo wrong on Gunn. I saw him play a couple of times in high school and was convinced he would be a very good player for us. I knew he would be limited because of his lack of lateral quickness but I cannot believe how slow and lack of instincts he has on the defensive side of the ball. In high school, he would put the ball on the floor and try to get to the rim but we are seeing none of this at BSU. As of today, he is only a designated floor spacer because of one skill, the ability to shoot the long ball. Mallers is a much better overall. I get what you are saying 'Kid' but it is only going to become more difficult for Gunn in the MAC season as he will be denied the ball. If he is not scoring, he does nothing else for us. Mallers at least can keep his guy in front of him and is a threat to get to the rim. Gunn is strictly a designated shooter and nothing more.

I thought along the same lines seeing him in HS, but slow as he is afoot, if he had a bit of recognition and anticipation he could manage on defense against some opponents. I have some hope he can do that, but progress is slow. On offense he was getting better inside, but here, somewhat like Sellers, and perhaps by design, but also put of necessity due to lack of anything like a first step, they want him just spacing the floor I suppose.
The defense has to improve for him to be more than a bit player. Mallers we have seen play much better, and part of what we are seeing could be defense shading him. If so he is getting something done without doing anything, he provides space. But whatever the reason for his slump, we have to let him play out of it.

They both have been foul prone as of late. It’s hard to score from the bench.

The fact that we are having this debate says a great deal about our recruiting and roster...

The fact that we are having this debate says a great deal about our recruiting and roster... Dude, we're standing at 96 in the Kenpom rankings with a bad loss at Evansville. This is a pretty good team with pretty good players.
