Insurance cost always has been major part of equipment cost. Facilities liability trickier because of sovereign immunity for state entities. Big issue about waiver of liability and hold harmless clauses in youth sports like little league.
And with the incidence of serious injury to kids good argument there should be liability

Oh wow. That legit could end organized football. The future of 18u football is private travel programs. School systems and local leagues won't be able to afford it and/ or take the risks much longer.

Im on the board for Metro which is Muncies biggest youth program about 600 kids. Insurance costs have increased and our lawyers have also said we should consider having every parent sign a waiver basically they know and understand all risks involved with playing football and any injury current or long term will be handled by their own private insurance. Cost will probably go from 100 bucks to 200 bucks in the next year or two

Yes right now its 100 dollars to play and that is paid by parents.. We will vote here in a couple months to raise that too 200 bucks for the season. This covers 6 games pads helmet rental and the insurance policy.
this is for 3-6 grade tackle.. K-2 grade flag is 50 and will go to 75

Even with waiver clause Metro will have possible liability and need insurance.
Exculpatory clauses and waiver doesn't always work.
And equipment design or defect could produce liability for the seller or manufacturer, hard in Indiana, but not impossible. That means they include insurance cost to protect themselves when pricing the product, whoever pays for it. Another increasing costs to participants or organizers.
There is no free lunch if the risk is really there.

Hence, football cant be a sport because it will have to be exclusive.

We have to provide 400 helmets, 400 sets of pads, 400 mouth pieces, 400 jerseys. We refurbish/reuse helmets pads and Jerseys each year but when we do have to replace its 40 for each set of pads 75 for a helmet and 20 for jerseys. You get to keep the mouth piece though. I bought my kid his own pads and a good mouth piece. So they price can go higher especially if your adding the other pads. We only provide a chest protector and honestly you can only refurb pads so much.

The pads I bought my son cost me a total of about 140 but they are so much better than the 40 dollar standard cheapos. Its not cheap but nothing is have you seen the price of a "good little league approved bat your talking 75 to 300 bucks

I’d always heard that baseball wasn’t inclusive because a lot of kids couldn’t afford a glove. Sounds like that argument pales in comparison to the cost of football, yet I don’t see the football “cost argument” getting too much publicity on preventing lower income kids from participating.

We will see HS programs fold up except in the big FB states, and maybe at private schools like Cathedral.
